Mark Bourne DVDJournal.com It plays hell with the facts and reduces its potentially gripping subject to cheesy soap operatic melodrama. How can hats being nailed to Turkish emissaries' heads be dull? Audience Member I first watched this movie when I was around 20 years old (circa 2003) and I LOVED it. I saw it on the Syfy channel but unfortunately didn't come across it until after the first 15-20 minutes. Throughout the years I'd search for it and finally found it on Amazon. This movie is my all time favorite Dracula movie. No, you won't see him dressed in full vampire garmets and sneaking into windows sucking peoples blood, but you will get an EXCELLENT movie which details the Counts life. This movie gives us his backstory, plenty of gore, how he acquired the name Vlad the impaler, and my favorite part about the movie- the love story. Rupert Martin will have you transfixed to your screen as he brings out the human element of Dracula. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed this film for its entertainment. I don't like the fact that it was titled the true story when it is 99% inaccurate straight from the beginning. I mean, did the writers even do their research? Then, we have the ending, that was just completely ridiculous. I love vampire movies but, this was not meant to be one. It just didn't fit. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member I remember this movie from years ago, it was really good, & a believable bit of pretend history. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Vlad Dracula, the Historical legend thereof.???? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Very good historically. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Though not released in theaters I believe this is the only worthy tale of the historical Draculea. If it had only been given a bigger budget and perhaps had someone other than Jane March play Elizabeta it would've been as big as Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula. The historical Prince is someone that is often distorted into whatever Hollywood needs at the time. This doesn't gloss over the hard stuff (nor does it do more than brush the surface). Vlad Draculea III is considered a hero to the Romanian people even today. If you think about it, there is a reason for this- which the movie points out clearly. Rudolf Martin does justice to the role and captures the more pensive side of the 15th century warlord prince. If you're interested in what's behind Bram Stoker's story then see this movie!
