Marked by a premise that you need to read twice to make sure you haven’t hallucinated it, the dazzling, silly Darla in Space is everything that indie film does best. Go to Full Review

For those willing to embrace the fundamental absurdity of its designs, the film offers the kind of surprising viewing experience that is all too rare in the current cinematic landscape. Go to Full Review

Quintessential indie filmmaking. Laplante and Moon are a creative powerhouse. A dynamic duo, if you will, of strange and resourceful ideas. Go to Full Review

Adam D Nov 20 I liked the characters. Alex E. Harris was a delightful protagonist who struggled throughout the film. That is what audiences like to see. Constance Shulman played the antagonizing mother who put Darla into a huge mess she now has to get out of. Wow Leona was annoying, in a punchable way! (good acting) I don't really understand what Mr. Pickens was doing, renting a warehouse and doing nothing all day. Also, I thought this movie was going to be about an alien and space. It was neither of those things. So Boo! for setting up audience expectations and failing to deliver. I did reluctantly enjoy the movie. It feels quirky and doesn't take itself too seriously. The film mocks consumerism in a way that reminds me of Repo Man with Emilio Estivez and Harry Dean Stanton. The addictive Moka Kola soft drink was a funny visual gag and reminds me of Slurm from Futurama. While I get Darla's predicament--she owes money to the IRS--I didn't really understand who the bad guys were. AD&D? The IRS? The tax accountant? The mother? Maybe all of them. Good but not great, 3 stars. See more SkyRo P @TheMovieSearch Jun 14 Darla in Space is honestly one of the worst films I’ve ever seen. It feels like something that was dreamt up by people who were high or completely disconnected from reality when writing it. The story itself is ridiculous. Darla Peterson is a strange woman who sells “kitty caskets”—yes, coffins for cats—and then somehow finds this bizarre creature that looks like a piece of pita bread. She starts convincing people to touch it, and it has sex with them, putting them into a kind of sexual coma. It’s a horrendous premise played by a weak lead actor, and the monster itself is just awful — a literal pita-like alien with bizarre powers. Who came up with this story? Who thought it would be fun or entertaining to watch? It honestly feels more like a bad joke than a film. “Darla in Space” is, without a doubt, one of the worst movies I’ve ever come across. It’s a perfect example of a film that should have stayed a wild thought instead of making it all the way to the screen. See more Read all reviews
