It’s unfortunate that Chappelle’s The Dreamer is, like some of his prior Netflix specials, obsessively fixated on the trans community, because it’s not an area he particularly excels at, resorting to puerile premises and punchlines.

A beautifully written and hilariously funny conversation about dreams and the dreamers behind them. The irony is looking at the audience scores of chapelles specials vs the critics scores. It's clear now that the critics don't reflect what real people care about or like.

I like his mix of storytelling and joke telling. I think he's trying to say something deeper and I appreciate how he mixes the two. A lot the negative comments talking about him punching down but I think those jokes aren't meant to be for the community he's talking about, they're a commentary on how he's being attacked with such single-dimension thinking so he shows it to you in a flat, uninteresting joke as a reminder to think deeper.
