Judy Berman Pitchfork Bowie's untimely death was a tragedy, but at the very least, it finally got us really discussing his body of work. The Last Five Years continues that necessary conversation. Jan 11, 2018 Full Review Rafer Guzman Newsday The Last Five Years will be a must for even casual Bowie fans, who are most likely still reeling from their idol's absence. It captures the ever-changing artist in his most surprising incarnation yet: a mortal man. Rated: 3/4 Jan 9, 2018 Full Review Scout Tafoya RogerEbert.com Despite testimony from many of his closest friends and collaborators, The Last Five Years doesn't so much draw a picture of David Bowie as trace his outline. Rated: 1.5/4 Jan 8, 2018 Full Review Peter Bell Vague Visages Bowie was indeed a source of radiant energy and enlightenment. He evoked a sort of youthful high, instilling fans with the belief they could break out of their mundane lives and become better versions of themselves. Mar 25, 2024 Full Review Asia Frey Lagniappe (Mobile, AL) This lightweight documentary fails to engage meaningfully with such rich material, remaining instead a merely adequate overview of a singularly fascinating period in the life of this artist. Aug 24, 2018 Full Review Álvaro P. Ruiz de Elvira El Pais (Spain) The Last Five Years shows the most raw... character that Bowie has ever created: himself, without make-up, with illusions, without costumes, with new ideas, without fireworks, with passion. And always with audacity. [Full Review in Spanish] Jul 9, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member The movie is about Bowie, but it's more about how creativity grows with determination and experimentation. And the interviews with his slew of past collaborators from bands are illuminating --- and stunningly amusing. From a songwriter's perspective? Amazing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member I amply recommend it, very nostalgic, even sad at the finale. A must see for every Bowie fan. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a very, very bad sign of the times. That people make films about people who talk about people. But what to expect from a society, which is so possessed by attention, that they even make videos on their reactions on cinema trailers... But! If the people would at least be so honest an name it like it is. The so called "Bowie Docu" is about a lot of people who talk about Bowie - and I cannot even express how less I care. Same happened with a George Michael Docu, where lots opf people talked about "how great he was", and maybe the max of stupidity was the docu on reactions haveing seen "the shining" 300 years ago... Sometimes I just have the very sad feeling, that there are always people who sell anything. Even if it is the worst taste possible... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member In-depth look at Bowie. Focuses on Bowie's last five years, while highlighting his music and life as an artist. Great documentary!
