Audience Member This film has a lot to see. The pace holds on for quite a while before action slows down. Managed to hold my interest for the most part, and the carnage follows more along the lines of lore presented in the film. An impressive portion of the film was done right, considering it to be strict B-movie fare. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Dawn of the Mummy could have been great....tomb looters find and ransack a mummy's tomb, and at the same time photographer show up to do a model shoot. The mummy is awakened and goes on a rampage. But then it all goes down hill. The mummy raises an army of zombies. The mummy looks like a reject from the Blue Man Group. The American stereotypes are horrendous. The cinematography is, however, quite good. Even the sets are good (despite the bright blue painting on the treasure room ceiling). Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member The worst horror film EVER! There are so many reasons not to like this horrid little picture. For starters the dialogue is awful enough that I lost interest during the first five minutes of the movie! Characterization is kept to such a low level and the characters are so two dimensional that it is hard to tell each character from each other because they completely lack personality! Logic is also kept at a minimum and practically nothing makes sense, why doesn't the mummy kill everybody earlier on instead waiting so long, and what is it that leaks out of the mummy that causes his servants to rise from the sands (which I might add is extremely illogical because an earlier flashback in the film shows them being buried WITH the mummy!). There is also a complete lack of suspense here, no chills ....no jump scares .... Absolutely nothing! One final note in my list of complaints with this film is the make-up of the mummy itself and his undead servants are terrible, the mummy isn't even scary and each time the viewer sees the mummy's lackeys their make-up gets worse and worse as if the actors portraying them got tired of the long make up process and decided to just smear themselves with car oil and call it good. It's a shame really considering that it could have made a dark, gritty and yes horrifying mummy movie if they actually decided that some skill and suspense was needed for the film. Alas that never happens. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Admittedly, the movie had bad acting (when everyone was in peril, it sounded like a dying animal of some kind), but to me, it translates to a horror movie with black-comedy in it. Even though I had to wait a whopping 45 minutes for all the mummies to arise and start their killing spree (spoiler alert), the bad acting, bizarre plot, and gore scenes headed by Frank Agrama proved to be a movie that I would watch on a Friday night regardless. That was how much I enjoyed it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member After a trio of thieves disturb the ancient resting place of Sefaraman, they unwittingly unleash the mummy's curse upon the land! ...Or at least upon a group of unlucky fashion models that stumble upon the tomb by mistake. As the title implies, DAWN OF THE MUMMY is a mish-mash of the zombie and mummy movies of the late 70's and early 80's, turning the vengeful spirits of the pharaohs into a pack of flesh-eating ghouls. Although utterly ridiculous and genuinely terrible, the film does have its creepy moments. In its most effective scene, the buried mummies reach out from beneath the desert sands and drag their victims to their doom. Most others consist of bad acting mixed with gratuitous gore, but there is plenty of gut-munching and neck-chewing to go around. Ironically, this trashy B-movie was the first mummy picture to actually be filmed in Egypt as part of an American/Arabic production, which at least creates a beautiful backdrop behind the carnage. For the most part, DAWN OF THE MUMMY is a curse upon its viewers. -Carl Manes I Like Horror Movies Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm glad I saw this shocker after visiting Egypt. Treasure seekers and a model photo shoot (yes!) disturb the tomb of Pharoah Safiraman unleashing a curse that awakens flesh eating mummies who rampage on a town and spoil a wedding celebration.
