Bob Strauss San Francisco Chronicle Pitt’s all-in performance and an impressive supporting cast supply enough roughhouse wit and Brooklyn grit to hold up scenes that might have otherwise gone down for the count. Rated: 2/4 Dec 12, 2024 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News “The Day of the Fight” punches above its weight because of the acting might of Pitt and the incredible black-and-white cinematography from Peter Simonite. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 12, 2024 Full Review Glenn Kenny New York Times “Day of the Fight” is an unabashed genre picture that manages to be both the kind of movie they supposedly don’t make like they used to, and also something bracingly fresh. Dec 9, 2024 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills Much loving care went into this film, but I wish it had reference points beyond other films. Huston (who is indeed the grandson of fabled director John) may have the medium in his DNA, but a little real-life experience once in a while helps art, too. Dec 19, 2024 Full Review Paul Salfen AMFM Magazine It’s the kind of movie that you just don’t see enough anymore that serves as an homage to the great fight films before it but also has a fresh take that’s raw yet very touching. It’s the underdog that turned out to be the main event. Rated: 8.5/10 Dec 18, 2024 Full Review Joe George Den of Geek When Mike fights, it's not a man to man battle. It's a struggle of people trying to support and forgive one another, despite sometimes disastrous mistakes. It’s a fight for grace, something so rarely found inside the boxing ring. Justin Williams Wow, just wow from start to finish this film had my attention. A real tear jerker, and I must say Joe Pesci’s scene really moved me. Everyone came to play and they delivered!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/18/24 Full Review Jess P Raw, beautiful, so many tears. What a movie. Bravo ❤️ Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/14/24 Full Review Jyoti H Day of the Fight isnt just a movie—its an experience. It pulls you in, makes you feel, and doesnt let go. Jack Huston has created something truly special here, and I cant wait to see what he does next. If you love films that make you laugh, cry, and hold your breath all at once, this one is a must-watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/11/24 Full Review Scott Donie A perfect film. Beautiful and magical and perfect. Life affirming. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/10/24 Full Review Geoffrey M A magnificent first film by Jack Huston about a great fighter about to participate in a championship fight after 10 years in prison. The film follows his fight day as he fixes his relationships of his past knowing the fight could be fatal. An extraordinary cast with Michael Pitt, Ron Perlman, Joe Pesci, Buscemi and others. Not to be missed. Pitt is brilliant. Geoff Maingart Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review Jeff T I REALLY liked the movie! I’m not a “proper film critic” with any understanding of “nuances”- But I know when I like a movie… -when it can make me totally absorbed, forgetting what situation I just came from, or what time it is or what I need to attend to afterwards… -when it moves me to tears (more than once!), and it’s hard to explain, but especially when it’s not done in a "theatrically manipulative" way, but in a much deeper way (that scene with “Mike” and his father in the “rest home”, oh my😢)… -when it makes me think about what’s important in life (among other things for “Day of the Fight” reminded me of forgiveness, how important relationships are, and also caring for those who are the “underdog”, to name a few things)… -when I wake up the next morning and I’m thinking and contemplating about what I saw… “Film” is very powerful. It can “move” us in tremendous ways…I highly respect so many of those in that industry… This film definitely “moved” me! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/19/24 Full Review Read all reviews
