All right, so the budget is limited, and the basic mcguffin - prove the "value" of humanity or everyone dies - is a difficult thing to pull off well. But the cast and script do a decent job, there are some nice moments and some neat stunts. Bug Hill gives a convincing and considered exposition performance as the male alien, and C Thomas Howell pulls a nifty double work session as both lead and director.
