G. Allen Johnson San Francisco Chronicle ... has an uninteresting lead character and a plot filled with contrived situations, illogical decision-making and amazing coincidences. Rated: 1/4 Aug 21, 2009 Full Review Kevin Thomas Los Angeles Times Young-seok Noh's Daytime Drinking is a droll minimalist comedy with major insights that has been understandably heralded as a breakthrough in independent filmmaking in Korea. Rated: 4/5 Jun 19, 2009 Full Review Derek Elley Variety Daytime Drinking is proof that a good script and simpatico direction and performances can overcome budgetary restrictions. Apr 2, 2009 Full Review Mike Scott Times-Picayune A low-fi road film with an improvised, DIY feel, it at times gives into tedium-induced lulls, but it's built around such an endearing character it's difficult not to be charmed by it. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 11, 2009 Full Review James Wegg JWR ... 'Drowning your sorrows' takes on extra meaning as Hyeok-jin (a wonderfully naive performance by Sam-dong Song) is convinced by his boozing buddies that a change of scenery will mend his grieving heart. Audience Member good Korean comedy that is one of the few that lives up 2 the promises of it's trailer. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member It was boring most of the time without any real progress. It seemed rushed at times, not my kind of film despite the fact I tried my best to like it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member A very simple movie, well driven by its characters and well crafted script.. The camera never moves, or follows..it's an unbelievable but yet gripping story where all of us has been there at least once or twice in his/hers life Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member I got tired of watching actors play drunk a long time ago so I avoided this for a long time. I finally indulged. Glad I did. Well edited in both writing and camerawork. Funny and peculiar. Could have lopped off a bit of the ending, tho. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Painfully intriguing "days in the life of" story... Watch with an elixir close at hand & participate in the mood! =-) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Funny, simple, exceptionally weird characters/scenarios. Even philosophical at times: "you've surely had enough/not I don't have enough". Wow, just amazing. And even shot on a Canon HDV, it still looks great! Very happy to have seen this! However, some connections were way too coincidental and this made at least one or two parts seem majorly predictable but I admired just how far the writer was able to extend the tension of particular parts for as long as possible. The story is not that cinematic though and can be a bit repetitive or a bit of a drawl at times (as things often happen in real-time). Other notes: great TV P-O-V shots and non-traditional long shots of A/B scenes. Editing quite exceptional and I totally love the jaunty funny music soundtrack and sound cues :) Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
