Audience Member Amazing film. The special effects are really very good, and the evocation of the era and the horror of the 1953 floods is quite an accomplishment for a relatively small European film. Sylvia Hoeks and Barry Atsma put in stellar performances - both are a joy to watch, and the relationship that develops between them during the disaster is believable and heartwarming. Julia is a sympathetic character, and her death-defying search for her missing child is incredibly moving. The personal story at the heart of this film eloquently communicates the devastation of a national disaster. It's a heartbreaking film, but very beautiful. I highly recommend it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Believable historical drama that also provides a small taste of things to come... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Captivating movie about the disastrous flooding of the province of Zeeland in 1953. Good acting, several convincing and emotional scenes. A young (unmarried) mother Julia loses her baby boy and tries to find him throughout the movie, not knowing that another girl, who lost her own baby, pretends the boy is her own child. One detail in the movie is unrealistic though: in several scenes we see Julia swimming in the sea water for quite some time. The most treacherous thing about the water back then in February was the temperature: only a few degrees above zero - ordinary people would freeze to death within minutes. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Touching, yet fictional story based on the true events of the North Sea flood in 1953.
