Larushka Ivan-Zadeh metro.co.uk If the destination proves less intriguing than its various journeys promise, it's still the kind of craftily assembled, generally watchable B-movie that might merit a gamble. Luis D Review: A Gripping Snowbound Thriller with Heart – Olivia Wilde Shines in a Tense, Stylish Crime Drama “En route to Canada with stolen casino loot, a thief (Olivia Wilde) separates from her brother (Eric Bana) and falls in with a boxer (Charlie Hunnam) who’s on his way home for Thanksgiving.” That one-line summary barely scratches the surface of the icy tension and surprising emotional warmth that pulses through this lean, atmospheric thriller. Set against a snow-lashed American landscape, this film combines crime, suspense, and unexpected tenderness with a sharp cinematic eye and a trio of compelling performances. Olivia Wilde delivers a standout turn as Liza, a calculating yet wounded fugitive who must navigate a deadly escape route after a heist goes sideways. Her chemistry with Charlie Hunnam, playing an ex-con boxer trying to reconnect with his family, feels raw and grounded, offering a quiet contrast to the chaos surrounding them. Hunnam brings a restrained vulnerability to his role, creating a character who feels both real and sympathetic. Eric Bana, as Liza’s brother and partner-in-crime, is magnetic—his steely presence and increasingly unhinged desperation provide the film’s darker edge. Their strained sibling dynamic adds a complex emotional undercurrent to the story, reminding us that loyalty can sometimes be as dangerous as betrayal. What sets the film apart is its smart pacing and tight direction. The snowy setting isn’t just a backdrop; it becomes a character in itself—cold, isolating, and unforgiving. The narrative moves briskly, weaving between action and introspection with ease, all culminating in a tense Thanksgiving dinner that feels like a ticking time bomb. Moody, stylish, and emotionally resonant, this film is a hidden gem—part neo-noir, part family drama, and wholly engaging. A must-watch for fans of character-driven thrillers. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/06/25 Full Review Alain E A confused movie. Cannot decide if it will be a crime flick or emphasize family dynamics or even explore an unexpected love connection. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/11/25 Full Review John M Ending was weak. Needed closure on multiple story lines. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/05/24 Full Review Larry L This is a really good movie I can't believe that everybody gave us such a bad rating. Good story great acting what more could you want. Must see in my opinion Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/04/24 Full Review Audience Member I remember watching this over 10 years ago and thinking it was just alright Studio Canal and Magnolia Pictures present Eric Bana, Olivia Wilde, Kris Kristofferson, Charlie Hunnam, Treat Williams, Kate Mara, and Sissy Spacek directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky Two bank robbers, a brother and sister, Addison and Liza getaway with a big score A briefcase full of casino cash but a car crash has them stranded in the open snow-filled countryside They separate to make it avoiding the authorities; Addison invades a couple's home and Liza falls for a boxer, Jay that picks her up while driving home for Thanksgiving being released from prison It's only a matter of time before the police track them down I like the cast in here and much of the movie's setting You really do feel the blistering cold of the harsh weather conditions from the snow to the blizzardy winds, it feels very searing much like these people's lives This is snow-filed neo noir meets dysfunctional family drama with being much more violent than I remember You do admire and loath Addison as this kind of villain and Liza is a sympathetic kind of femme fatale being confused about her motivations of where they stand while falling in love This is a forgettable viewing with some thinnish characterization but manages to be a good late night time killer, it's all about setting expectations Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/08/23 Full Review Kimberly E Should be called "DEADFUL." I only had to endure 30min. PHEW! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
