Critics Consensus

Fast, funny, and gleefully profane, the fourth-wall-busting Deadpool subverts superhero film formula with wildly entertaining -- and decidedly non-family-friendly -- results.

Nikos Great as can be and funny as well. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/16/23 Full Review Peter Freaking epic movie, you gotta see it for yourselves 😂 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/19/21 Full Review Donavin D The original Deadpool movie is a love letter to all who love the character, a hilarious and violent adventure through Fox’s X-Men universe. Some uneven pacing and weak villains hold it back just short of perfection but it is as close to it as Deadpool is to telling a dirty joke at all times. Hypocritically, I enjoy when Quentin Tarantino tells his story out of order, it’s typically well done and builds on character motivations and relationships in a masterful way. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for Deadpool, as we start the film strong in the Red and Black suit — stunningly comic book accurate and some great mask designs allow him full expression of his various emotions and emphasize his jokes perfectly. We get an incredible action sequence and then the film flashes back to tell his origin and how we got here. Its not at all bad, the sequences are actually really funny and can be touching at times but its a testament to how immediately gripping following the merc with a mouth can be that It felt like whiplash whenever we flip flopped between past and present. The villain, Ajax (Francis) is serviceable and played interestingly enough by Ed Skrein, but their relationship never really goes anywhere or builds on anything more than base mutual hatred. Also his powers are just underwhelming and provide little spectacle. The cast knocked it out of the park, each casting is perfect but the one that stands head and shoulders above the rest is Ryan Reynolds as the titular Deadpool. Another actor that could never be replaced, the charm, whit and charisma of the character is only matched by his hilarious delivery and love for the character. Not every joke lands but for every one that misses, they are followed by a dozen that don’t. The film is not perfect but its flaws are easily outweighed by the things it gets amazingly right. With standout action, hilarious writing, strong performances and some great costume design, Deadpool is one of the best in the genre. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/17/25 Full Review Joanna B It's not exactly my favourite. I understand why so many people like it. It's very easy shallow comedy which just involves crassness and random pop culture references. Therefore it appeals to the masses. I just don't find it particularly amusing or entertaining most of the time. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/14/25 Full Review Hunter A. The funniest roller coaster you will ever ride Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/13/25 Full Review Oliver J A razor-sharp blend of chaos, comedy, and carnage, Deadpool shatters the fourth wall with gleeful abandon and delivers one of the most refreshing takes on the superhero genre in years. Ryan Reynolds is perfectly cast as the “Merc with a Mouth,” firing off rapid-fire quips and R-rated wisecracks that land as hard as his punches. Equal parts outrageous and oddly heartfelt, Deadpool balances its irreverent humor with just enough emotional depth to make Wade Wilson’s story resonate. The action sequences are slick and kinetic, the soundtrack is infectious, and the self-aware script keeps you laughing even as the bullets fly. While its humor won’t be for everyone—and subtlety certainly isn’t on the menu—Deadpool embraces its insanity with such confidence and charm that it’s impossible not to have a blast. Verdict: A wildly entertaining, genre-bending romp that proves superheroes can be foul-mouthed, funny, and still full of heart. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/12/25 Full Review Read all reviews
