T B left after 50 minutes. trite and unoriginal. mediocre writing & acting. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/10/22 Full Review Google Well acted, especially Sadie Sink. Good pacing. Thoughtful story that was believable and touching Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/06/22 Full Review Carolina L I think that the movie would probably be better if some of the acting were better, cause there are some of them that omg I can't deal with it. Btw the main actress saves this movie, cause the story is really comovent and I cried in many of hers scenes Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/03/24 Full Review chitown2bayarea Sadie excels playing a grief stricken teen in this tearjerker movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review Audience Member We all deal with loss and grief in our own way Based on the book by Philip Beard and directed by Gren Wells Sadie Sink plays a young girl Tess Her family feels from the tragedy of the loss of her sister, Zoe She can't feel anything since she blames herself for what happened Tess's mom is distant and she decides to live with her dad who divorced years ago She expresses herself through drawings and meets a neighbor who she falls for The longer she stays away the more lonely her mom feels Can Tess and her make up for lost time? How can different ways of losing a sibling or a parent be the same thing? Or different? Sadie Sink gives an exceptional performance as a girl dealing with loss and playing hundreds of what ifs in her head A person like her can only not face what really happened for so long The supporting cast works very well too yet a couple other side characters could've been cut out since we never see them too often Wells tells a pretty good teen drama about grief without sinking too much into it Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/04/23 Full Review Brittany K I thought it was decent at first with some cool angles and videography, but once the main character (16 years old) started dating a 20 something year old I was grossed out. I thought maybe they would make a point of it and say it's wrong, but the pedophilia kept getting worse. I had to turn the movie off. Elizabeth Weitzman TheWrap Too much of “Dear Zoe,” though, feels factory-designed to engineer emotion rather than aiming to earn it organically. Nov 3, 2022 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Dear Zoe is the kind of film that too often goes unseen. Rated: 3.0/4.0 Jan 15, 2023 Full Review Lisa Nystrom FILMINK (Australia) … emotionally generous performances that are captivating to watch Rated: 15/20 Dec 26, 2022 Full Review Tara McNamara Common Sense Media While Sink does her job of relaying what's on the page, the directing, somehow, doesn't offer viewers an understanding of what's going on with Tess in between the lines Rated: 3/5 Nov 9, 2022 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall The writers and director Wells repeatedly fall back on melodrama, pushing the emotionality with the full range of movie gimmickry. Rated: 2/5 Nov 8, 2022 Full Review Kat Hughes THN Sink’s performance is beautiful. The young star effortlessly manoeuvres the various stages of grief and makes a compelling lead.
