Matthew D Not so much a satire of capital punishment itself, but of the exploitative nature and increasing tastelessness of trash-TV (sometime that was relatively new when this was made). The humor is broad and campy and, despite the movie's bad rap, often very clever. My main problem was that the pacing could have been tighter; some scenes could have benefited from faster delivery. Still, it's a fun movie with some great gags and a good, if not exactly mind-blowing message. I 'd recommend it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/24/21 Full Review Audience Member A top-rated TV gameshow that's all the rage casts death row inmates as contestants in a bid to save their lives and be granted a stay of execution in a variety of demeaning ways. One of the executed is a mob boss, so a hitman is sent out to whack off the gameshow host. Basically a spoof of Running Man w/o much humor (though, I am sure they imagined they were creating biting social commentary). Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Poor quality but its redeeming feature is that it's deliberately overplayed and is a satire on a televisual society in the near future. The eerie thing is we have moved in that direction since this was made. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Okay, so while I admit to having a few laughs with this one, it's still a fucking terrible film and should be rated as such, regardless of what enjoyment one gleans from it via sarcasm and the like. Definite rental, as you would likely NOT want to own this one. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Deathrow Gameshow is a darkly humorous and gleefully over the top film in every way. What I really love about this film outside of the fact that is a very funny film, but it is also a film that never takes itself seriously and loves to do all sorts of weird, fucked up things just because it can. I would definitely have to say that this is one of the most unique and underrated comedies I've ever seen. If you enjoy watching films that are totally bizarre and satirical, Deathrow Gameshow is definitely worth checking out. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member A decent movie from Mark Pirro. It;s not as good as God Complex, Rectuma, or Queerwolf, but I like it better than the rest of his movies that come to mind. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
