What Kostanski gets right isn’t just the nostalgia, gore, or even the joys of puppety violence—it’s tone. It feels like an invitation to an inside joke, with a whimsical imagination that’s oddly wholesome for a film that opens with a bloody decapitation.

I give it 10/10. I love sword and sorcery films. This paid a nice homage to the original Deathstalker series, the Masters of the Universe, the Army of Darkness, and some others. The film has great practical effects, gore, action, and just enough comedy. Unlike most films of this genre, there is no gratuitous sex or nudity. I drove a 3.5 hour round trip to see a movie with 1 hr 42 min run-time. That's how good it was.

Great movie that knew exactly what it was. An awesome reboot of a sword and sorcery franchise that didn't fall into the trap of trying to be realistic or gritty. Not a single actor phoned in their performance, you can tell every one of them was having a blast making it. If you like sword and sorcery with awesome soundtracks, you'll love DEATHSTALKER
