What to Know

Critics Consensus

Viewers desperately seeking a new erotic thriller might find Deep Water worth a dip, but it's far from director Adrian Lyne's best work.

Audience Says

Between the unlikable characters, a story that's mostly pretty dull, and an annoying ending, it's hard to pick Deep Water's worst quality.

Christina Newland iNews.co.uk It's certainly pleasurable, but this modern Fatal Attraction is too prudish to satisfy. Rated: 3/5 Sep 19, 2024 Full Review Scaachi Koul BuzzFeed News Honestly, reflecting on this movie for more than five minutes will make the whole thing melt in your hands, so it’s best not to consider it for too long. Apr 7, 2022 Full Review Rex Reed Observer OK, it’s not Body Heat.  But it kept my motor running. Rated: 3/4 Mar 31, 2022 Full Review Stephen Garrett Book & Film Globe As soggy and bloated as a submerged corpse, Deep Water gets in a few good strokes but ultimately struggles to stay afloat before sinking like a stone. Rated: 2/5 Aug 20, 2025 Full Review Jai Arjun Singh Firstpost Around halfway through, as the ambiguity of the early scenes is lost, and we get a clearer sense of what exactly is happening, Deep Water also becomes more predictable, and refuses to gather steam as a thriller. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 27, 2024 Full Review Yasmine Kandil Discussing Film Even if these types of thrillers are your guilty pleasure, no matter how bad or predictable they may be, forcing yourself through two hours of lifeless and uninspired writing and performances of this sort is simply not worth it. Giorgio G Not bad, not bad at all. It's a slow cooking multi relationship thriller, with a very sexy Ana de Armas and a stoic calculating Ben. One imagines a certain development, but you surely don't get what you expected. Not one of the tensest crime stories, but well written and well acted enough to make it worth its while. 6/10 points! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/09/25 Full Review Courtney K i didn't not like it, but it didn't really feel like there was a point to any of it. i kept waiting for the 'twist' at the end, but there is none. the ending left me a little confused, actually - her character is kind of all over the place. sometimes it seems like she's into it & other times like she's not. make up your mind. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/28/25 Full Review João Vinícius A Deep Water's ability is weak and sleepy, and so he decides to use eroticism as an aid in the bad plot, which is not very worthwhile and does not make the horrible situation he finds himself in any more interesting. Ana de Armas is watchable, but the others, well, I called them "others", and they are well known. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/20/25 Full Review Bill H If you need a cure for insomnia I would highly recommend this movie. I can't believe I wasted two hours of my life watching this horrible movie. Boring is being generous. Slow moving plot, unbelievable story, and an absolutely stupid ending. Next time you have two hours to waste turn on the Happy Days episode where Fonzie jumps the shark. It's better entertainment and has a more believable ending. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/14/25 Full Review Ryan U This was the worst movie I have ever watched, I feel as though I have failed myself even gazing my eyes upon it for more than 20 minutes. Disgusting Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/24/25 Full Review marc n Boring... Almost hard to watch. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/30/25 Full Review Read all reviews
