Critics Consensus

Delivering good old-fashioned thrills thanks to director Renny Harlin's reliable genre instincts, Deep Water is an unapologetic B-movie that swims rather than sinks.

The human drama element between the passengers provides just enough context to carry this light and predictable but garish and bloody popcorn adventure. Go to Full Review

Forget anything new. Director Renny Harlin is merely spitpolishing his same old bag of shark tricks. But the dude knows how to deliver assembly line product like nobody’s business. Go to Full Review

With stars like Oscar winner Sir Ben Kingsley and Aaron Eckhart as our pilots, an impressive little girl, a villain we really want to get eaten, and fun material that’s right in Renny Harlin’s wheelhouse, it actually works and works pretty well. Go to Full Review

Rose 1d The movie was wonderful. Not the same old movie where the sharks are attacking. This movie focused just as much on the passengers on the plane. You got to know something about them. I was sniffling when the siblings were reunited. Excellent movie. See more Pablo Bacener 3d Great cast, exciting, thrilling, and a must watch for those who love a good jump scare. See more michael 3d thought it would be more of a survival typa movie See more Ed E 3d Very entertaining movie. I enjoyed it. See more ChrJu 4d To Sappy at times how can you sit there and have heartfelt talks when it takes way too long and 4 to 5 sharks are circling near boat which is very fragile and made of rubber that they can easily bite kind of stupid but overall, I think the movie was OK. I would give it about maybe a 4.9 / 10 with 10 being the best and my husband gave it about a 4/10. The initial started the movie was absolutely great. The plane crash was on point very graphic and horror movie but when a shark came in, it was kind of underwhelming. Overall, I think I’d see it again for Free on Netflix or something, but I definitely think my husband will pass. a for effort, cause I like shark movies See more aimee 4d It's a "double-dip Catastrophe movie" that combines a plane crash with hungry sharks. The film directed by Renny Harlin, stars Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley, about a plane crash in the Pacific Ocean that leaves survivors stranded in shark-infested waters. the movie follows a group of diverse passengers, including a first officer (Eckhart) and an obnoxious passenger (Angus Sampson), as they fight to survive both the impact of the crash and the sharks. The action sequences, particularly leading up to the crash, are well-staged.. my issue was with the CGI sharks.. this did not seem like it meant to be campy so the look of the sharks took me out of the some of the more serious emotional tension and melodrama. Pretty decent acting and effects excluding the sharks. I did enjoy this film as a popcorn entertainment flick. Bring a parent kids in a storyline just hit different. So I got emotional. 3.5 stars for me See more Read all reviews
