Stealing a trick from Tarsem Singh's The Cell (2000). Blomkamp's film uses zones constructed from the detritus of the unconscious as a way of giving cinematic form - sight and sound - to otherwise internal struggles and states.

Was looking forward to this, as I love Neill Blomkamp. This is one of those odd films where the overall concept was better than the film they put together. I can't specifically say why it didn't work for me only that it didn't.

I'm a stark defender for Neill Blomkamp's films, but out of everything he's done (including the recent Gran Turismo), Demonic is a bad movie I can't defend. There's a genuinely interesting plot here, but the movie squanders it for trippy visuals instead of meaningful characters & purpose.

Overall, what starts as something mysterious and promising, sadly turns into something flat, and the film takes a nosedive in the second and third acts. Performances are fine, and aspects relating to the audio and fun visuals are also great. The film's biggest letdown is its plot and development of the key character, both of which become dull and forgettable. Moments of mystery are generally predictable. Sure, there's some fun and creative ideas relating to sci-fi and horror; I just personally hoped for something stronger rather than this vague and uninteresting movie.
