Critics Consensus

Den of Thieves pays energetic homage to classic heist thrillers of the past; unfortunately, it never comes close to living up to its obvious inspirations.

Stephen Romei The Australian Butler and Schreiber deliver commanding performances. They are men who could explode at any moment, at work or at home. That nonstop ticking beneath their calm exteriors fills the film with a gripping tension. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 14, 2018 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times Den of Thieves desperately wants to be Heat or The Killer when it grows up. Instead it's a daft, distant, drunken cousin to those pictures, but if you studiously avoid thinking about it, you can at least enjoy its moronic antics. Rated: 3/5 Feb 5, 2018 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald The film's sole virtue is its finale - a complicated plot twist that sparks a belated, and brief, surge of interest. Rated: 2/5 Feb 2, 2018 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse It's one thing for the bad guys to shoot one another, but when cops place dozens of innocent people in the middle of an automatic gun battle it feels gratuitous even for a movie like this. Rated: 2/5 Feb 28, 2021 Full Review Dan Buffa KSDK News (St. Louis) The lesson is simple, ladies and gents. Don't judge a book or movie by its cover. There could be a fun toy waiting in that gift you didn't care to unwrap. Nov 10, 2020 Full Review Alex Hudson Exclaim! The complete lack of likeable characters is a problem for a heist movie - in this struggle between violent criminals and corrupt cops, we don't particularly care who wins. KimB I enjoyed this movie! Action was on point! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/10/25 Full Review Mark B Not for me. All the characters were more unlikable than the next. Tough talking no nonsense men that come off as ridiculous. I found what action there was as being quite tedious. I just did not care. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/22/25 Full Review A L Could have been an excellent film, but it wasn’t, crap ending to a steaming pile of crap, what a load of sh*te Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/25 Full Review Lorena M Terrible character development, I didn't care about any of them. The moments that were supposed to be tense were boring. The only tense moment was when the main cop guy went to sign the divorce papers, which had nothing to do with the heist. Skip it Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/20/25 Full Review David S Den of thieves is one of the best hiest movies since Ocean's 11. This movie is really good. Gerad Butler is great like always and O'Shea Jackson Jr. Is great as well. The dynamic between the cops and the outlaws is great love the suspense. There is a point in time in the movie you want the outlaws to succed in robbing the federal reserve but you also want them to get caught at the end. The ending has a good twist that you don't see coming at least i did not. And that is why i'm putting it as one of the best hiest films. Geard does a great job at someone who made a huge mistake and is regretting it. The emotional scene after he sees his youngest daughter at school was well done. This is a great movie. The acting, directing, action and suspense is awesome in this movie. If you have not seen this movie then I recommend you do Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review David D Gerry Butler deliver another Gerry Butler film. Action in the form of guns, more guns and limitless bullets. Lots of mindless fun! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/25 Full Review Read all reviews
