Alexandra Heller-Nicholas The Blue Lenses A tragedy as much as a horror film, Depraved is a contemporary love letter to Mary Shelly's legacy Feb 19, 2020 Full Review Matthew Monagle Austin Chronicle At nearly two hours, Depraved can feel a little long in the tooth... Then again, the performances here are a little too strong for Fessenden's film to be anything other than a treat for fans of independent horror. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 26, 2019 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com A heartfelt, deftly mature 21st-century reimagining of author Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, indie auteur Larry Fessenden's Depraved is a movingly emotional monster movie that packs a pretty mean punch. Rated: 3/4 Sep 18, 2019 Full Review Sarah Vincent Sarah G Vincent Views I went into it not realizing that I was watching a Frankenstein remake. I figured it out quickly, but writer, director and horror acting legend Larry Fessenden makes the story fresh and disorienting from the beginning. Jun 8, 2024 Full Review Alix Turner Ready Steady Cut Stylish Frankenstein treatment with social themes and complex characters, from the mind of horror maestro Larry Fessenden. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 18, 2021 Full Review Scott Phillips The Movie Isle Fessenden's films are rich with social commentary and subtext. Craig B Depraved is certainly an interesting take on the Frankenstein story, based in a modern setting. Admittedly I nearly gave up after 30 minutes wondering where this film was heading, but I stuck with it. You do have to be patient and get through the first half of the film. The second half is certainly more intriguing and more eventful, with an escalation in the story with every unfolding situation. If you stick with it, you may ultimately get something out of this movie…it really only ‘broke even' for me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Thom G "Depraved" offers an immersive experience that puts the viewer in the shoes of the protagonist. It's a successful modern adaptation of a classic theme, with philosophical undertones that add depth. The film benefits from strong performances and is overall a moving experience. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/26/24 Full Review Thomas R Larry Fessenden's "Depraved" is a beautifully-told-&-filmed, modern Gothic tale of Frankenstein—adroitly played by actor Alex Breaux. Part romantic, part dread, this film with stick to your psyche long after the credits roll. I can't wait to see the director's take on Dracula and the werewolf sub-genre. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/17/23 Full Review Jeffrey P A spin on ‘Frankenstein' and a fairly decent one at that. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/25/23 Full Review Emilliano S I thought it was a modern day Frankenstein Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Hugo "Depraved" is a modern indie version of Frankenstein in which the humanity that remains in the monster counts more than its body parts. The director uses the creature as an instrument to examine social consciousness, especially the ethical standards in the pharmaceutical industry. However, the movie is never able to maximize the potential of its great premise. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/24/22 Full Review Read all reviews
