Audience Member Awesome Movie One Of The All Time Best .. Shame Its Not On The List Of Such Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review andrey k One of the great and more true-to-life soviet anti-war films of the late 50s period. Poignant and harsh in depicting the realities of war, not making a happy enterprise out of it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Soviet friendly but nonetheless sincere Russian WWII drama. With images of nazi atrocities grimmer than anything which would appear in western films for another 30 years. Brilliantly, innovatively shot. I'm no expert, but as far as Soviet anti-war movies go I'd put this on a par with Tarkovsky's Ivan's Childhood. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Sergei Bondarchuk's Destiny of a Man is a story set during the second world war, Andrei Sokholov (Bondarchuk) who is capture by the germans is experiances the grusomness of the war, the only thing that keeps him going. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review walter m In "Destiny of a Man," Andrei Sokolov(Sergei Bondarchuk, who also directed), father of four, is married to Irina(Zinaida Kiriyenko) who he met at a building site. When the Nazis invade the Soviet Union, he enlists and is sent to the front. In an attempt to break through the lines, he is captured by the enemy and is eventually sent to a series of work camps. "Destiny of a Man" is a harrowing tale of survival of an ordinary soldier in time of war, highlighting the best and worst of humanity(Especially the worst since the Holocaust is referenced.), where small acts of compassion are outweighed by the larger acts of cruelty. The movie is superbly filmed, if a little obvious at times. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
