Critics Consensus

Derivative and mostly uninspired, Devil's Due adds little to either the found-footage or horror genres that it's content to mimic.

Larushka Ivan-Zadeh metro.co.uk Tiresomely and implausibly shot entirely as if found footage, this female-written horror is Rosemary's Baby for the Paranormal Activity generation. Rated: 2/5 Sep 6, 2017 Full Review Scott Tobias The Dissolve [T]he small achievement of Devil's Due is how much it both exploits the video-cam approach and overcomes some of its limitations. Rated: 3.0/5 Jan 31, 2014 Full Review Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle It's certainly not the worst of the found-footage subgenre, but it's a far cry from its Sixties- and Seventies-era cinematic inspirations. Rated: 2/5 Jan 23, 2014 Full Review Paul Lê Bloody Disgusting Devil’s Due can be seen as a fun, if not flawed first exposure to the abilities of Radio Silence. And, hopefully, somewhere down the line they can revisit the found-footage format. Rated: 3/5 May 8, 2024 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Given that this premise doesn't necessarily lend itself to the found-footage genre, the filmmakers make the best out of the format to deliver something largely unexpected. Rated: 4/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Frank Ochieng SF Crowsnest The derivative shock-schlock wagon continues to roll on with the dull and unimaginative frightfest Devil's Due, a monotonous hybrid of Rosemary's Baby and Paranormal Activity slammed together in ugly unison. O z I didn't hate it, but I won't rewatch it. It felt less like a horror about the devil and more like a woman going through a terrible pregnancy. I'm starting this review with 20 minutes left of the film and only one paranormal thing has happened. It felt so weird and out of place. Barely anything has been explained yet but my biggest pet peeve about this movie is the overused "found footage" format. I dislike the style of film in general but if the story is not going to carry the movie, it's even more pointless for me. *20 mins later* I could barely see any of the end, it truly felt pointless to me. It also felt incomplete, mainly because I didn't get a sense of what the goal of it all was. The priest briefly explained but that was the only explanation.. It's an okay watch but I'm not watching it again. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/19/24 Full Review Audience Member i appreciated the classic idea Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/29/24 Full Review Bronwen S Constant jerky camera makes this unwatchable, not scary at all Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/24 Full Review Stoner J A shame this looks like a stinker in radio silence filmography because Devils Due was really good. Kind of a mashup of Paranormal Activity the Marked Ones and the Last Exorcism, and the effects are awesome! Just like another severely underrated horror movie from the same year, As Above So Below, another underrated horror gem. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/18/23 Full Review DB C I remember when this first released in theatres it was so packed at one showing that people had to sit on the floor. It's definitely a good horror film for it's kind, it might not be anything ground-breaking but it does what it sets out to do. The plot seems to be inspired by the classic film "Rosemary's Baby". Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews
