A.L.Jude P Tense and trilling way of true to life American drama. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/09/23 Full Review allen p This movie is my favorite of the year! A lost treasure! So underrated! If you like Billy Bobs acting, this show is for you! Keeps you interested all the way through and comes to a dramatic head at the end. Well worth your time! An awesome movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/06/23 Full Review Pete W This was nothing more than a "take your son to work" movie — although it was good to see Billy Bob again. I'll watch him in anything... even this. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/07/23 Full Review Kelly H This movie remind me of a close range with Sean Penn and Christopher Walken as his father I agree with other reviews that Penn was just not up to the task otherwise all performances were gritty and realistic good to see Billy Bob in the movies again Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/05/23 Full Review Darrell B I loved this movie for most of the reasons critics did not. This was art. This was escapism from the usual tropes and franchises with less and less original thought with each sequel. This was a throwback to the movies of my youth (1970s and 1980s). I read and loved the book and appreciate the near impossible task of capturing and translating every facet of humanity and depth of the story and characters to the big screen. Robin Wright was her usual amazing self and her son captured the essence of someone raised in a violent and dysfunctional household with a different kind of love, one that's gritty, dark but yet familiar and discomforting. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/01/23 Full Review Alex W Great performances and riveting tension throughout. So cool to see Robyn and BB playing opposite each other, and Hopper was surprisingly good. He's obviously inherited good genes but also honed his innate talent. Robyn's role is particularly heartbreaking, and I totally got the sense of this ill-fated family and the son's desire to get out any way he can. The shooting is truly stunning and so captures the beauty and also desolation of the backwoods of GA. And it's kind of old school in its simple and straight forward storytelling and refreshing because of that. No pyrotechnics or CGI shit. It is violent and upsetting but well-earned. Ps - I don't understand the critic's reviews that have trashed this movie and I am glad I ignored them. The movie is good and totally worth watching. Rex Reed Observer With terrific Appalachian ambience and moments of carefully constructed action, Devil’s Peak is not a terrible movie, but in the bigger picture, it’s not a particularly memorable one, either. Rated: 2/4 Feb 24, 2023 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times The elements of a good, “Winter’s Bone”-like depiction of the rural social order are here. But they only really coalesce — and combust — when Thornton’s on the screen. Feb 24, 2023 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com Ben Young’s atrocious “Devil’s Peak” is a case study of excellent performers being given so little to work with from a script. Rated: 1/4 Feb 18, 2023 Full Review Cain Noble-Davies FILMINK (Australia) … between the unfortunately mismatched casting, the rote dialogue, and overall unimpressive storytelling, there’s not much to recommend here. Rated: 8.28/20 Oct 24, 2023 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix The novelty of real-life mother-and-son duo Robin Wright and Hopper Penn portraying a mother and a son in Devil's Peak is not enough reason to watch this dreadful crime drama with a putrid plot and subpar acting. Almost nothing in this flop is believable. Apr 15, 2023 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews The characters and the story are cliches.
