Pilar M This movie brings two new things: the german humor (quite different to the US comic movies) and the hard life of a scientist in the XIX century) shown with many contrasts and dichotomies between these two geniuses so similar in their passion and so different in their lives. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Two different explorers seeking to make sense of the world. A mathematician seeing the world of matter (physiosphere) and a naturalist seeing the world of the living (biosphere). Could have been complete if it included a philosopher inquiring into the noosphere. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting idea to take the parallel lives of Alexander von Humboldt and Carl Friedrich Gauss, two brilliant and influential 19th Century German scientists. They are completely opposite characters - the former loves adventure and travel, while the other is basically an introvert. The problem is that, plotting their different lives, leads to a very uneven film. At least according to the movie, they met once briefly as kids, and then again as old men, so squeezing these two together into one story comes across as very forced. Even their areas of expertise are totally different, and, while we are told Gauss was a genius, it is not altogether very clear what impact he had because there's very little context. The subject matter would be better handled as a documentary - or, even better, two. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Very inspiring and educational. I was moved by both stories. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member It is about the life of two scientists of the 19th century. One of was the naturalist cum adventurist von Humboldt, and the other was Guass the mathematician. Yes, the one who had found the normal distribution, and you may surprise to see how his life was far from normal. I must thank the story has once again revived my flaming passion for number and maths. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member the boy from Der Vorleser has become a man! its been a while to watch a German movie and i have to say its rare to see the humorous side. :P Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
