Dig Two Graves makes some pretty nifty transitions from the 1940s to the 1970s, including one seemingly unbroken shot. Every trip to the past reveals something about the "present-day" journey.

It doesn't quite come together the way it it should to be looked at as a serviceable piece of low-grade creepy filmmaking or a worthy mystery. It's a close call, but it's not quite worth recommending outside of Levine's performance.

Dig Two Graves is one of those films that are not bad but not great either. It's not all that entertaining, but it's not actually boring. It's one of those films that are difficult to review as it falls pretty flat down the center of entertainment.

The ending killed it for me. Basically what you saw was a rapist, murdering cop live a nice long life with narry a consequence for his actions. Oh but no. He confesses to his granddaughter that he felt guilty about it for all these years. Oh boo hoo hoo.

Well, this was a cool surprise. A unique and provocative thriller about rising above the sins of the past, it's slightly heightened yet familiar, like a surreal nightmare. Imagine the otherworldly evil of The Witch thrown into the realistic American heart of It, but without any of the blatant horror of either. Even with the unwieldy storytelling, it's a beautifully gothic and creepy indie, hiding within the bowels of Netflix like a deep dark secret in a family tree.
