Jeff M This is one of the more unusual documentaries I've ever seen, and its appeal for me is hard to describe. I don't think it would work as anything other than a documentary, although I wouldn't be surprised if someone tries to make a theatrical film out of it because it would be a showcase for the actors who would portray Dina and Scott. Not a lot actually happens in the film as we watch them move in together and eventually get married, but it becomes increasingly more fascinating to become part of their world as we watch them interact with each other and those around them. Their honesty and lack of censorship, propelled I imagine by their respective mental challenges, is jarring at first but becomes rather engaging after awhile. The filmmakers allow us to find humor in what we're watching without looking down on these people or ridiculing them. And as we learn more about Dina's past, we come to respect her for surviving physical and emotional damage that would probably cripple the strongest of us. This is a sometimes challenging but ultimately rewarding documentary. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/24 Full Review Audience Member Amazing film. See it! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review dave d Understanding people with autism or aspergers is vital to each peorson's ability to communicate with the growing number who have it. This portrait of a couple who are both on the spectrum may be a little too provocative at times, but for those with a watch it will be an enlightening experience. Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald Filmmakers Antonio Santini and Dan Sickles mostly let the couple's routines and journeys paint their own emotionally dappled picture. Apr 2, 2020 Full Review Charles Bramesco AV Club Sweet without being sappy, the film extends an uncommon empathy to two characters that colder films (and, as we see, people) would treat as a punchline. Dec 14, 2017 Full Review April Wolfe Village Voice Dina is a story about resilience and a woman's indomitable will to seek out her best life. Nov 30, 2017 Full Review Vadim Rizov Filmmaker Magazine It’s a little bit of a horror show, but, again, I suspect that’s probably mostly my problem. Jan 12, 2023 Full Review Rahul Desai Film Companion The result might be a poignant, morally ambiguous and awkwardly engaging love story - replete with the knowledge that this is just another brave month in her life. Mar 1, 2019 Full Review Stephen Saito Moveable Fest In telling their story in such a beautiful way, Sickles and Santini seem to realize how precious what Dina and Scott have before they do, but then again, it's hard not to fall for Dina, or her film.
