Critics Consensus

Clever casting can't save Dirty Dancing, a hollow remake that trips over its own good intentions.

Anne Cohen Refinery29 The craziest thing about this, let's face it, completely unnecessary and vastly inferior imposter of a film, is the ending. Jun 27, 2017 Full Review Jenna Scherer Rolling Stone Wayne Blair and Jessica Sharzer's remake attempts to be all things to all people, and ends up being nothing to anybody. May 25, 2017 Full Review Brian Lowry CNN.com ABC'S Dirty Dancing remake fits snugly in a box, adding just enough appealing wrinkles to its predecessor's familiar moves to provide, if not the time of your life, for what it is a pretty enjoyable few hours. May 24, 2017 Full Review Mark A. Perigard Boston Herald Dirty Dancing is 30 years old. To celebrate, ABC has decided to stomp all over your memories of the beloved film. Rated: D May 25, 2017 Full Review Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed A god awful and ill conceived version of the eighties classic. May 25, 2017 Full Review Laura Hurley CinemaBlend This new Dirty Dancing is an energetic way to get ready for summer in a way that will have you tapping your toes, and it brings all the swirling skirts and thrusting hips that we could have hoped for out of a TV special. Ruby s i thought it was ok i had never seen the og movie but from what i saw with this movie it was pretty goood Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/25/24 Full Review Trafalgar L Lazy writing, a verbatim remake script with a twist ending and an unnecessary subplot involving Dr. and Marjorie Houseman plague this television film. If you desire to watch it please only focus on Katey Sagal's Vivian Pressman. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/24 Full Review Orion Y Save yourself the time and skip this movie. This was a career mistake for the actors who decided to proceed with this film. It basically follows the first movie but worse. If you're going to remake a classic then at least improve it or add to it? The dialogue, music, and dancing are atrocious. None of these actors seem to fit with the characters the way they did in the first film. It looks like they randomly grabbed people and assigned them to whatever. Also the remake of the music was a big no. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/19/23 Full Review Kowana F A HOT MESS! JUST LOOKED AT IN NOW!!! WHAT THE ??¿? THE ACTIRS WERE OFF BEAT. THE BEST PART WAS NICOLE S. WAYNE BLAIR YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT IT ALONE. UGGGGGGGHHHHĤHH!!! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/08/23 Full Review Andre G This is a remake of the original dirty dancing except it has better music. There's some better dancing too. My main issue with this movie is that the two main characters in my opinion don't mesh well together. They don't have good chemistry at all. Other then that I like the added scenes that were not in the original. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/04/23 Full Review Jeremy C Very cool. Fresh movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
