What to Know

Critics Consensus

Returning to their seemingly bottomless well of flatulence humor, racial stereotypes, and stale pop culture gags, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have produced what is arguably their worst Movie yet.

Josh Rosenblatt Austin Chronicle There's no nice way to say this, so I'll just say it: Writer/directors Friedberg and Seltzer are a scourge. They're a plague on our cinematic landscape, a national shame, a danger to our culture. Rated: 0/5 Jun 14, 2013 Full Review Jim Schembri The Age (Australia) A dumb, dumb film, to be sure, but also undeniably funny in more spots than a right-thinking, mature adult person feels comfortable admitting. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 10, 2008 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald A woman a few rows in front of me at the preview chose to write 20 minutes worth of text messages, rather than watch the movie. Even though she was not paying, the price was clearly too high. Oct 3, 2008 Full Review Micheal Compton Bowling Green Daily News Nothing more than a 90-minute barrage of unfunny jokes without the hindrance of a pesky plot or character development to get in the way. Rated: F Oct 16, 2019 Full Review Jamie Russell Radio Times Depressingly, these magpie parodies are so cheap to produce they can't fail to make money -- which probably means this interminable franchise is far from over. Rated: 1/5 Jul 16, 2014 Full Review Serena Donadoni Baltimore City Paper Deflating these images only works when they've overstayed their welcome in the cultural landscape, and making fun of the rejects doesn't have the same punch. Bryce D this was the worst thing ever to exist but I feel bad Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/06/24 Full Review gi z "Disaster Movie" is a chaotic blend of parodies that attempts to poke fun at various blockbuster films, but it often misses the mark. The humor is over-the-top and relies heavily on slapstick and absurd scenarios, which can be entertaining for some but exhausting for others. The characters are mostly one-dimensional, serving as mere caricatures of the films they’re spoofing. While there are a few laughs to be had, the overall execution feels disjointed and lacks the cleverness of other parodies. If you're in the mood for mindless comedy, it might be worth a watch, but don't expect anything groundbreaking. Overall, I'd give it 1 star for effort but not much else. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review TROY S It is by far the stupidest, lamest, most lazy, and unbelievably UNFUNNY movie I have ever seen. It is a total disaster. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/04/24 Full Review Guillermo B "Disaster Movie" is one of those movies that as the years pass. Is still a dumb non-sense movie. And that makes me laugh. A funny parody of disaster movies, with a ton of funny cameos as "Hannah Montana", "Iron Man", "The Incredible Hulk", "Kung Fu Panda", and more, I really enjoyed this one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/31/24 Full Review Audience Member Filth, cringe filth!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review Janice C "Disaster Movie" is a film that attempts to parody the disaster genre and popular culture, but ultimately falls short. The movie is packed with references to various films and celebrities, but many of these jokes feel stale and overdone. The humor often relies on slapstick and lowbrow gags, which can leave viewers cringing more than laughing. The plot is thin and serves primarily as a vehicle for the rapid-fire jokes, making it difficult to invest in the characters or their situations. While there are a few moments that may elicit a chuckle, they are few and far between. The overall execution feels rushed, and the lack of coherence makes it hard to follow. In the end, "Disaster Movie" might appeal to those looking for a mindless watch, but for most, it’s likely to be a forgettable experience. I’d give it a 1.5 out of 5—there are definitely better comedies out there! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/22/24 Full Review Read all reviews
