What to Know

Critics Consensus

Returning to their seemingly bottomless well of flatulence humor, racial stereotypes, and stale pop culture gags, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have produced what is arguably their worst Movie yet.

Josh Rosenblatt Austin Chronicle There's no nice way to say this, so I'll just say it: Writer/directors Friedberg and Seltzer are a scourge. They're a plague on our cinematic landscape, a national shame, a danger to our culture. Rated: 0/5 Jun 14, 2013 Full Review Jim Schembri The Age (Australia) A dumb, dumb film, to be sure, but also undeniably funny in more spots than a right-thinking, mature adult person feels comfortable admitting. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 10, 2008 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald A woman a few rows in front of me at the preview chose to write 20 minutes worth of text messages, rather than watch the movie. Even though she was not paying, the price was clearly too high. Oct 3, 2008 Full Review Micheal Compton Bowling Green Daily News Nothing more than a 90-minute barrage of unfunny jokes without the hindrance of a pesky plot or character development to get in the way. Rated: F Oct 16, 2019 Full Review Jamie Russell Radio Times Depressingly, these magpie parodies are so cheap to produce they can't fail to make money -- which probably means this interminable franchise is far from over. Rated: 1/5 Jul 16, 2014 Full Review Serena Donadoni Baltimore City Paper Deflating these images only works when they've overstayed their welcome in the cultural landscape, and making fun of the rejects doesn't have the same punch. Mark M I would give it a 0.5 star if i could because the filmakers had to be crack thinking that anyone would enjoy such a film without being sarcastic that they like it Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/25/25 Full Review Joe Junior P. R Absolutely rubbish! It's the far worst film I've ever seen in my life! It's really annoying and stupid! The acting is dreadful! Speaking of the panda costume and the chipmunk puppets, they look creepy and hideous to look at. It's utterly unwatchable and forgettable! If you hate this film so much, don't buy it on DVD nor Blu-Ray! Don't waste your money on this rubbish! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/12/25 Full Review SkyRo P "Disaster Movie" is aptly named, as it serves as a parody of various films that were popular during its release period. The main character is played by Matt Lanter, and the movie features cameos from celebrities like Vanessa Lachey, Kim Kardashian, and Carmen Electra, among others. Unfortunately, the film is a chaotic mess. True to its title, it’s all over the place, filled with absurd humor and a lack of coherent storytelling that seems as if it was crafted by someone with little experience, perhaps even a stay-at-home individual living in their parents' basement. The disjointed nature of the film made it hard to follow, and much of the humor fell flat, often veering into the realm of annoyance. The portrayals of characters, like Amy Winehouse and Gisele from "Enchanted," had moments that could have been funny but mostly missed the mark. Additionally, scenes featuring a character in a compromising position were simply ridiculous and tasteless. Overall, I cannot recommend "Disaster Movie." It’s a disappointing attempt at comedy that fails to deliver any real entertainment value. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/10/25 Full Review Luke A Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have really hit the bottom of the barrel here, producing one of the worst parody films of all time. It's not that the endless pop-culture gags don't hit, it's just that they drag out far too long; to the point where it feels like they are REALLY filling in time for lack of anything else to show, creating an exhausting experience for audiences. Possible the worst mistake is using culture references that just don't land with 2008. It's the issue with style of films, where they have very short shelf lives, but this one is throwing in gags and reverences from the 80's. Was Fabio and Dr Phil relevant in the noughties? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/06/25 Full Review Frank J It's something alright... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/25 Full Review Shrek L This gives me a plan for suicide Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/25 Full Review Read all reviews
