Amy Nicholson MTV Divines isn't feminist. But it's thrillingly, fiercely female. Sinad W Absolute masterpiece, Oulaya is a phenomenal actress. The movie is made in French, I watched it with English subtitles. The emotion and connection the two main actresses had to one another really shone through, when they were together you knew what they were talking about without subtitles. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/22/23 Full Review Audience Member The two main characters carry this angry and sad movie…about teenagers dreaming of a better life? Someone else mentioned that it probably owes a lot to La Haine, and is similar in many ways. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/11/23 Full Review isla s This film seemed a bit lacking in overall plot direction to me. The two main characters are interesting and I'd say its about people in poverty trying to dream their way out of it - teenagers hanging around their local area, trying to show people up and generally cause mayhem. Its also about anger. Hence, its fairly depressing. I'm not sure I can say much more about it. It was a somewhat easy watch, with some fast paced scenes but its also sad as well. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member If you want to watch a better version of this, look to La Haine. This film acknowledges this classic at the very start, when the girl points her finger gun at the camera. Divines starts well and ends well. Full of intensity. However, the middle part really drifts off, too many poor scenes that don't hold interest. The main two actresses are superb and deliver their parts to perfection. The viewer cares about them... But not enough for me to want to watch again. Unlike La Haine, which I'll keep watching over and over. Overall a solid film, worth a watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member RATING: A Director: Houda Benyamina Divines is really underrated with general audiences but it actually is fantastic and Filmmaking at its finest. The lead is really good and the Cinematography is excellent. The Screenplay itself is pretty good as well especially during rage Scenes that really go to your heart. It's really Emotional and at least at the end you will either cry or have tear in your eyes. The Direction is Outstanding ( that's probably why they won the Palme de'or at the Cannes Festival ) and it's a Directorial Debut which makes it even better. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
