Audience Member Among this multiple-vignette strata representation, subtle criticisms of present-day ideologies and the magic of editing that would distinguish Eisenstein's glorious future can be found. Cinematography is quite remarkable as well. A must-see at least for the sake of cultural dignity. 86/100 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Good short film, Eisenstein's first before making his first two features Strike and Battleship Potemkin. Full of clowns and strange characters, I wish it had sound so I could understand it better, but it doesn't even have accompanying music. Memorable scenes are when a man loses his top hat on top of a building and tries to retrieve it. Then there's a scene which shows a man transforming into a donkey, showing his early cinematic mastery and experimentation. Finally, there is a shot of two clown's feet descending a few steps, perhaps foreshadowing his famous shot in Battleship Potemkin. Worthwhile to see one of cinema's early master's trying to find his voice through film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews
