Angel N Meh, it was okay, just not as funny as I hoped. A couple parts made me chuckle, but a lot of the gags felt like they were trying way too hard. One moment I’m cringing and cracking up as Oliver and a freaked-out robber try to improvise surgery on some guy’s dislodged eyeball (gross!), and the next I’m actually rooting for Oliver to overcome his fears. The humor is ridiculous in the best way, and even the darker, gross-out moments are delivered with a wink. Honestly, it was a wild ride that had me smiling long after it was over. Oliver’s over-the-top hypochondria is hilariously relatable (I mean, who hasn’t self-diagnosed on WebMD at 3 a.m.?). The premise alone (a hypochondriac stuck in a clinic hostage situation) is comedic gold, and the execution absolutely delivers. Yet somehow, amidst all the absurdity, the film still manages to pack in a lot of heart.
