Saw at Wisco Film Fest 2014 See more 09/20/2013 A delightful Romanian drama/comedy directed by Adrian Sitaru , a real master of his trade, is about our relationship with animals. Although he has made "just" three feature films so far (also several TV productions and shorts), his style is unmistakable. The progressive Romanian director came into notoriety through his signature storytelling style, built upon the most common daily situations, yet handled with remarkable suspense, while leaving out all the action. The story of 'Domestic' focuses on the inhabitants of an apartment building and their animals, whether this means pets or simply dinner. The whole film is divided into two parts, Domestic Life and Domestic Death. We have all sorts of things happening: a mother brings home a live hen without knowing who has the stomach to slaughter it, a father sees his son's rabbit as a Christmas dinner delicacy, a stray dog makes everybody's blood boil, and a cat wonders between life and death... oh, I forgot the pigeon and the canary, too... This is a movie which is clever, witty and extremely well-acted. From the beginning it was obvious that this art work is a labour of love, which comes across in every frame and every character, regardless how many legs it has.
