Critics Consensus

A rote thriller whose few flourishes serve as bittersweet reminders of its director's glory days, Domino continues a streak of DePalma disappointments.

David Edelstein New York Magazine/Vulture Underfunded, sketchily written, and heavily cut (maybe one reason the writing seems sketchy), Brian De Palma's Domino still puts contemporary thrillers to shame. Jun 7, 2019 Full Review Adam Nayman The Ringer It's hard to imagine any critic-myself included-suggesting we're looking at an all-time great finale. But I did laugh out loud while feeling liberated, guilty and disgusted for doing so. DePalma's still got it. Jun 5, 2019 Full Review Barry Hertz Globe and Mail Running at just 89 minutes but stilted and gangly enough to feel twice that long, Domino never feels like an actual film. Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 5, 2019 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut Production issues were evident in Domino and the over-stylized pace kills any suspense it tries to build. Rated: 2/5 Aug 20, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review This late-career offering from the cherished director rings with a generic quality and undercooked screenplay, despite having nearly every element in place required for an excellent Brian De Palma film. Rated: 2/4 Mar 2, 2022 Full Review Kip Mooney Central Track In no uncertain terms, this film is a big mess. Rated: C- Aug 10, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member sickening for De Palma to put this out. What awards show has no security. And it starts with a cop who forgets his gun lol. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/14/22 Full Review Audience Member It's not that bad, it has some cool set pieces and it's not too long, the story is not perfect but very few are Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review hazycrow This is a movie made in 2019 that looks and sounds two decades older, and puzzling scene and sound choices kept it in engaging throughout. This film helped me stop taking a base level of entertainment in many competent but forgettable films for granted. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Rotten. In crime investigation, a star (detective) forgot his handgun. Unbelievable and Unbelievable. Downhill after that. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie had so much going for it, but the ending was disappointing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member For a b-movie, I would have to say that this film is got an interesting plot. If you are truly bored and want something to pass the time, then this is a good choice. Film-wise not too impressive, no impressive or beautiful shots. But overall an entertaining short b-film.
