Yasser Medina Cinefilia I find the way it deals with adultery and marital dilemmas surprising and hilarious, with two quite enjoyable performances from Elliott Dexter and Gloria Swanson. Nick M Directed by Cecil B. DeMille and starring a young Gloria Swanson, this light romantic dramedy is enjoyable, but forgettable. We're supposed to learn along with our leading man and woman what is really important in a marriage and how to keep our partners happy, but it doesn't seem to take itself too seriously. That is not a bad thing, because it leaves room for elements outside of the main plot to shine. Alas, nothing really fills the void. The character development of the husband isn't very believable, and the best thing I can say about the picture is that the costumes were fabulous. Swanson is not yet "Swanson", but one can see the fire about to catch around her eyes. The lesson this film seems to want to impart is that, when it comes to marriage, better the devil you know. We are left with this tongue-in-cheek summation at the end: "And now you know what every Woman comes to know--that Husbands, at best, are pesky brutes; and at worst--are unfit for publication!" Egad... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/05/24 Full Review david l Don't Change Your Husband never quite captured the humor and the charm of its opening sequence which was delightful. The film is predictable in its plot, but it still works as the message is sound, the romantic and comedic elements both worked very well and the central Gloria Swanson performance is terrific. It was a welcome contemporary departure for Cecil B. DeMille. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The best comedy movie ever made! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member star making silent for Swanson and first collab with the gr8 CB DeMille Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member A young woman (Gloria Swanson) discovers her middle-age husband is a bore. He eats onions before kissing her and he forgets their anniversary. She lets herself be seduced by a younger man and when they marry, she falls from the frying pan into the fire. A rare comedy of manners and mores (with a sprinkle of spectacle thrown in) from early Cecil B. DeMille in DON'T CHANGE YOUR HUSBAND. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member A pretty silly, but generally entertaining movie, I found this more interesting because of the sets, styles, and behaviors. Swanson is very charming. And the film doesn't outstay its welcome. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
