Vixo S @vixo_six Jul 9 Doodlebug is a short that did not really work for me. You can see Christopher Nolan searching for his path, playing with paranoia, self destruction and a visual idea that tries to be unsettling, but the result feels more like a proof of concept than a solid work. Its biggest impact depends on a visual device that, for me, has aged poorly and does not reach the force it probably wanted. It has an interesting reading about how a person can become their own threat, but that interpretation arrives more strongly after thinking about it than during the experience itself. I do not think it is terrible, but I also did not like it. As a curiosity within Nolan’s filmography, it has value. As a short film, it left me quite cold. The cinematography is also really good and I can see Nolan style in it. Lighting, camera movement and framing too. The score is simple, but great and with the help of the clock ticking, the phone ringing, it created some tension. Probably the best short film I've ever seen, I haven't seen many though. See more Shioka O @RT54204327 11/09/2022 just spend three minutes! already it is in his style. See more 12/29/2021 One of Christopher Nolan's earliest film projects, Doodlebug isn't as smart and as well-thought out as the man's future endeavours (it was clear he was inexperienced at this time and was still a student; from what I've heard, his first movie "Following" is very much a glorified student film) but it's use of black-and-white, ending that provides metaphors that make me happy that YouTube comments exist and use of mundane, yet still decent-for-its-tiny-budget make it a nostalgic look at Nolan's humble beginnings...and likely to give fans of his work further appreciation for how far he's come since then.
