Mike J Sonic I think it's so weird that I have never seen it before but I think I'm going Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/29/22 Full Review Audience Member Demasiado amable y naif. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Feel good and unusual movie that deals with racism, prejudice and drugs issues in a fun way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member The title of this might suggest it’s an action thriller about money, or even a movie depicting Homer Simpson’s life (Doh!), but no, it’s about plain old bread. Thankfully, the fact it blends a traditional Jewish baker with a young black drug dealing apprentice, means the unlikely duo can accidentally combine to produce a top selling marijuana laced baked good, which may just save their business from going under. As well as mixing bread and drugs, this also has the perfect fusion of comedy with equality and diversity to produce a very enjoyable alternative to the great British bake-off. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/14/19 Full Review Audience Member Saw a working cut back in June 2014 and this was my review back then... If you read the synopsis of this on imdb, you will have a fair idea of how the whole film unfolds. No surprises for the demographics this is squarely aimed at then: Jewish; weed comedy connoisseurs; undemanding Britcom watchers. The next question is whether the script feels convincing or real enough and if not, whether the acting is charming enough to make you forget (and forgive) its flaws. Sadly, after a promising and steady start, the film unravels soon around the mid-way point and contrivances mount on top of contrivances. Pyrce and Collins are good and watchable – proving the experienced luvvies’ worth. But it is a broad film: not really a comedy nor as dramatic as it wants to be. The subject matters (East End regeneration; drug trafficking with toothless and unthreatening gangstars; family business drama; gerrys on weed having a laugh…) feel familiar and while the Jewish/Muslim dynamic does give it a little oomph, it is not enough to carry the film through. A pretty typical Britcom then: harmless but a bit all over the place ultimately. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) Neither the social realism nor the stoner antics feel sufficiently thought-through, making Dough the definition of half-baked. Rated: 2/5 Jun 5, 2017 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Best filed alongside tandoori chicken pizza in the list of hybrid recipes that should never have left the kitchen ... Rated: 2/5 Jun 4, 2017 Full Review Kate Muir Times (UK) [Pryce] is horribly let down by a predictable paint-by-numbers script and some overcooked supporting performances. Rated: 2/5 Jun 2, 2017 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson For better or worse, "Dough" is a strong mentor-mentee film that just happens to have a special funny ingredient in its cooking that adds wrinkle and flavor. Rated: 3/5 Apr 7, 2024 Full Review Michael J. Casey Michael J. Cinema A socially conscious movie that is offensive in an unconscionable manner. Rated: 2/5 Jul 15, 2021 Full Review Andrew Gaudion THN It is well-intentioned and occasionally has the odd moment of inspired wit, but it isn't enough, as the dough in this mix too often fails to rise to the occasion, even if it does have a warm touch.
