Down a Dark Hall is more stylish than scary, although its foreboding atmosphere may raise a few goosebumps among younger viewers.

Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Down a Dark Hall eventually goes Down a Convoluted Tunnel, with some admittedly creepy but also just plain crazy sequences. Rated: 2/4 Aug 17, 2018 Full Review Tomris Laffly RogerEbert.com Rodrigo Cortés' mild supernatural mystery often feels like an incomplete genre exercise; one that reluctantly tiptoes around its "Suspiria"-for-teens premise. Rated: 2/4 Aug 17, 2018 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety This is a decent modern Gothic thriller handled with sufficient style and a straight face by genre ace Cortés. Aug 17, 2018 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a worthless ordeal that fares much, much worse than one might've feared. Rated: .5/4 Feb 23, 2021 Full Review Andrew Wyatt The Lens Dispiritingly bland gothic nonsense, more concerned with gloomy atmosphere and trite adolescent angst than with creating a compelling story. Denisa M This would have been a really good Githuc thriller, if not for the weird creepy sequences and creatures. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review Chevy H it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat, great acting from everyone would love to see another one Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/26/23 Full Review Kyle M An indifferent adaptation for a YA novel, even when categorized as supernatural horror with the biggest thrills already promoted therefore seen alongside the unveiled conspiring twist not coming out too shocking. Basically through the humbleness of the characters, besides the possessed abilities, it's a horrific version of "Good Will Hunting" regarding emotional scars finding their healing factors as it seems was trying to divert from an acclaimed classic through its eventful flow being similarly digested, but the supernatural elements justify the substances for buildup feeding into our expectations. Well-casted with AnnaSophia Robb excelling above while others are still trying to figure out their approaching involvement. Too obligated led to unbalanced lack of wholesome focus, leaving the performances as individualized showcases behind the YA novels subgenres if the adaptations not going to justify the visualized significance behind the routine stories. (B-) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/26/22 Full Review victor o I saw this movie for AnnaSophia Robb and I was happy to watch not just her but also other decent performances. This was interesting but not the type of movie I would enjoy. Katherine "Kit" Gordy is a problem child who has driven her widowed mother to the breaking point. With her qualities, she is granted a punishment that is at the same time a great opportunity. Sent to a high-end private school in the country, Kit and other young, troubled girls are housed and educated in an environment that looks great but is also dark and oppressive. In time they become so involved in their studies that it borders on insanity. Kit and other girls want to know what is going on as the pressure is on for them to apply themselves so hard that they are practically killing themselves. With a frightening conclusion, to say the least. I love AnnaSophia Robb and I got to say it has been a while since I've seen Uma Thurman pull a great performance. The story comes off as dark, almost a horror but it plays very subtly, with no blood or guts which is impressive but not very strong. Okay but I've seen better. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review stefan p Watching it, and its hilarious !!!! "She tried to burn my hair" line from movie! It's getting a star just for that? Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review jelisije j A very disappointing, but unique horror movie that had the potential to be good or decent.
