Unseemly, unsettling, and unremittingly bleak, Downloading Nancy is slickly made but mostly unpleasant.

Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle You can't really blame Bello for taking every chance available to let her monster talent off its chain, even when the opportunity takes the form of something so ill conceived and unworthy (and dull and ridiculous) as Downloading Nancy. Rated: 1/4 Jul 10, 2009 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com There are no great, important human lessons to be learned here, no truths about the interior complexities of the soul and psyche that could make any of what occurs to be worthwhile. Rated: 1/4 Jun 6, 2009 Full Review Brian Tallerico Movie Retriever An amazing example of talented actors doing their best to make something genuine of a complex concept but being betrayed by writers and a director who seem afraid to really let the film connect. Jun 6, 2009 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Downloading Nancy will be one of the more uncomfortable movie experiences you’ve ever had unless you avoid it altogether, which may not be a bad idea. Rated: 1/4 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Debbie Lynn Elias Behind The Lens [W]ith DOWNLOADING NANCY, Bello reaches the pinnacle of her thus far seen vast talents, turning in a performance as Nancy that is mesmerizing, disturbing, interesting and dripping in Oscar gold. Lenny K I think this movie is bizarre bit brilliant. The trailer was amazing. The performances make this movie stand out. Maria Bello is great, capturing the character very well. Interesting and out of the box. Worth a watch and an open mind. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/10/23 Full Review Audience Member dark and disturbing, but honest! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member That's the worst roll I've seen Jason Patric play. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member I agree with the other reviews that Bello's acting is great but even so this script is just too melodramatic and contrived to feel the emotion or "cerebral" moral conflict that Renck was undoubtedly aiming for. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member I was so touched by this work of art. The script is spell-binding. All the acting performances are brilliant. So ... why do so many people hate it? That is because it dares to make us look at what so many of us have been a part of. Children within our own families are abused. And we refuse to believe them when in so many different ways they scream at us -- mama, daddy, auntie, brother, sister, why didn't you protect me from him! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member This film is way too caught up on being creepy. It struggles to tell a story, it is completely consumed by the bleak nature of itself. Nancy isn't even a person at some point, it is very obvious that she is the most miserable being that could come out of a writer's mind. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
