      Critics Consensus

Larry Drake's deranged performance as the titular doctor is just about all that distinguishes Dr. Giggles from its slasher brethren.

Hero O Dr. Giggles isn't really a slasher film for me, but a "Horror Comedy". Larry Drake's performance was amazing, and Brian May's score was impressive. The gore effects and the blood was pretty good, when I finished the movie I described it in one word: "Impressive". Manny Coto's direction was also good, but the screenplay was a mixed-to-positive for me. Regardless, I'll give the film 4 out of 5 stars and an "A-" grade. Worth a watch! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/24 Full Review Naomi V This movie would freak me out as a child ! Ty Burr Entertainment Weekly At this late date, the rules of the adolescent slice-'n'-dice genre have codified into ritual (teens + sex = death), suggesting that those who rent this may have bigger problems than just bad taste. Rated: D- Dec 4, 2018 Full Review Jeff Shannon Seattle Times The doctor's incessant giggling is supposed to represent the outlet of childhood psychological trauma, but don't expect Dr. Giggles to give Drake's performance a sympathetic or tragic dimension. Rated: 1/4 Dec 4, 2018 Full Review Kevin Thomas Los Angeles Times Dr. Giggles is one horror comedy that actually is laugh-out-loud funny, a fast and frequently hilarious collision of gore and gags, and a tour de force of smart, sophisticated exploitation filmmaking. Dec 4, 2018 Full Review Stefan Birgir Stefans sbs.is Dr. Giggles is good fun. Drake has a good supporting cast to help things move along at a good pace and there are a few neat practical effects scattered around. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 23, 2023 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal A generally uninteresting and unambitious slice of generic horror. The only thing remarkable is the rigor with which it places every possible double entendre about medicine and death on the lips of Larry Drake, who is at least having a good time here. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 27, 2022 Full Review Casey Chong Casey's Movie Mania No doubt Larry Drake owns the role and it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the title character in [Dr. Giggles].
