Critics Consensus

Dragon Blade is beautifully staged and choreographed, but between the battles, its talented cast is overwhelmed by a dull story and choppy editing.

Handsome production design and sweeping battle vistas lend a touch of class, with Chan directing the action scenes with trademark brio. Go to Full Review

There are nice moments, but this is pure bombast, and Chan's natural action flair is not given free rein. Go to Full Review

The narrative is notably bizarre, with a smorgasbord of never-ending tribulations and lingering speeches - however, brush that aside for a film that relies on the spirit and merits of its actors and crew. Go to Full Review

Sam W Jul 26 A Roman Centurion and his legion join forces with an exiled Chinese special forces unit to build a city on the Silk Road and unify the region through peace. The plot has too many ideas, most of which are poorly explained and the frequent slow motion scenes and flashbacks interrupt the flow. Dodgy CGI and costumes but it has a weird rustic style as it represents the different historical cultures. Chan’s signature quirky fighting style is entertaining if anachronistic and the big final battle at the end with all the different war bands coming together was good. See more Korra N 11/11/2024 Better than it has any right to be, Dragon Blade is a surprisingly fun historical epic that's not nuanced or brilliant, but fairly straightforward and exciting, with a few committed performances that help sell the stakes and peril. See more Dinos K 04/16/2024 An excellent movie for martial arts with authentic Chinese actors in the lead roles like John Cusack and Adrien Brody See more marcus 01/21/2024 Great miscast , nice visuals, not so great directing and editing See more Zach L 06/13/2023 A funny idea mixing Romans in the making of the Silk Road while fighting agaisnt the villainous Roman empire . The story is quite watchable See more Read all reviews
