Critics Consensus

Dream House is punishingly slow, stuffy, and way too obvious to be scary.

London Evening Standard The fragile hope that we might have a grown-up horror movie on our hands is smashed to smithereens. Rated: 2/5 Nov 25, 2011 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian This is a workmanlike movie that is never quite scary enough, and never quite ingenious enough, though the four leads do an honest enough job. Rated: 2/5 Nov 25, 2011 Full Review Empire Magazine Rated: 2/5 Nov 25, 2011 Full Review Iván Kazi EscribiendoCine Jim Sheridan's new movie is simply mediocre. The plot twists are thrown in lazily and at the wrong time. Rated: 1/4 Mar 8, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies This is a movie featuring loads of talent and at its core a familiar but fairly interesting story. But it’s also a movie plagued with amateurish writing and an off-the-rails ending that undermines everything the movie tries to do. Rated: 2/5 Aug 20, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

bill k this is an example of how not to make a psychological horror movie there is no suspense and no thrills the script is terrible the story and plot both equally make no sense. Daniel Craig, Naomi watts, and Rachel Weisz give terrible poor performances, Craig and Weisz chemistry is so wooden, dull, lifeless and unconvincing they make a terrible on screen couple. its baffling how such a terrible on screen couple with no chemistry are married in real life and I hope they get divorced. Jim Sheridan did a terrible job directing it his direction was incompetent, and the cinematography and visual looks, imagery and scenery are bland and flat out dull to look at. a must miss Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/28/24 Full Review Carson P What did I watch some kind of shyamalan wannabe parody film???!!! This movie was so horrible nothing made sense who and why and what kind of excuse would someone want to murder someone’s family and how near the end is that terrible wife looking like she’s alive and not a ghost after being killed so stupid and meaningless, none of the charachters were likeable, Rachel weisz is the worst her facial expressions were irrritating, the music is stomach churning, the cinematography Is horrendous and the script is just the worst of the worst. Daniel Craig out to be utterly ashamed of this why did he even sign on to it some paycheck I guess ( this was actually filmed in February of 2010 when he was still dating that ugly rodan and this is the worst way to fall in love with someone else ) he is terrible in this he always looks as if he would rather be anywhere else but on screen, Jim Sheridan did poorly directing and it is a career ending low for him ( and yess this movie was actually directed by an Oscar nominated director seriously??!!!! What was he thinking ) he gave the psychological horror genre a bad name I hate this movie with a passion I’d rather watch those Michael bay platinum dunes horror remakes over this. They are more suspenseful and thrilling and scary than this schlockfest. It’s like Sheridan wanted to challenge uwe boll this is one of the worst movies that tries to be dramatic and scary and it fails every once in a while I love to watch a scary and suspenseful drama thriller but this missed the target. Note one of the films posters actually rips off those two kids holding hands from the shining noooooooooo!!!!!!!!! They didn’t even make the father be the child killer himself speaking of which the daughters were awful I hated their annoying whiny behaved I honestly was rooting for the serial killer to murder them I hated the women in this mess boooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Snooze house you suucckkkkkkk worst movie of 2011 ( or at least one of the worst and the worst movie of Daniel Craig’s career ) 1/10 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/10/24 Full Review Roseanna O I actually quite enjoyed this film. It's more of a psychological drama/Thriller and I watched it without any expectations which is probably why I enjoyed it so much. Do not expect it to be a horror or scary otherwise you will be disappointed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Makes you wonder what made such a talented cast do this movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member It was fairly decent, not perfect. But totally worth it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review colin m This didn't really work.
