Herman G. Weinberg Sight & Sound Hans Richter's first American feature film, Dreams That Money Can Buy, is a surprise -- and a most pleasant surprise. Apr 21, 2021 Full Review Bosley Crowther New York Times Obviously 'arty' in nature, it still tries for new ways to frame ideas. For that it is to be commended. Better go see it for yourself. Audience Member Hans Richter's experimental film is a veritable who-who of the avant-garde community in the 1940's; even torch singer Libby Holman is heard on the soundtrack singing "The Girl With The Pre-Fabricated Heart." Historically important. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This would probably get slammed nowadays, but the for the time it was produced it is a surrealist masterpiece that certainly needs to be watched more than once to make any sense of it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Ahead of its time in almost every way. This super surreal, experimental collage is a mesmerizing kaleidoscope of Dada wonderfulness. And the music is fantastic! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member supermeaningfectlylesssurrealist movie I ever see. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Love it or hate it stuff..A litle corny looking now but I bet it influenced the right people..I didn't even bother me that the sound was obviously post production.Although the DVD has a good alternative soundtrack I guess Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member When eminent figures of the avant-garde (i can start name-dropping here: hans richter, duchamp, ernst, leger, ray, calder, music by john cage & darius milhaud collaborate into a super-team) try to make a film with a wider appeal, unfortunately, the personalities are more impressive than the film. the desired effect is somehow diluted by its popular ambitions.
