Ben Kenigsberg New York Times Driven by mostly Spanish-language folk music, the movie provides a potent if piecemeal counterbalance to the sensationalism of "Breaking Bad." Nov 13, 2014 Full Review Scott Tobias The Dissolve Save for the vague aura of danger surrounding Guzmn, Drug Lord has trouble forming a coherent point of view. Rated: 2/5 Nov 12, 2014 Full Review Ernest Hardy Village Voice Compelling but ultimately unfulfilling ... Nov 11, 2014 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue ... turns out to be uneven and incomplete (with some graphic violence to illustrate its points), but compelling as it tries to separate fact from rumor amid a large-scale manhunt. Dec 31, 2014 Full Review Louis Proyect rec.arts.movies.reviews Reminiscent of Michael Moore's search for Roger Smith, arguably a more toxic figure than Shorty Guzman Nov 14, 2014 Full Review Kevin Jagernauth The Playlist "Drug Lord: The Legend of Shorty" squanders an opportunity due to the common problem of contemporary documentaries, where the directors get so far in the way of their own story, that any context or objectivity is lost. Audience Member An interesting look at a few filmmakers attempt to find and i,nterview El Chapo. Along the way, they meet all kinds of characters from outsiders to some of the people in his cartel. It gives a brief, if somewhat lacking, story of what lacking story of who El Chapo is. Some of the scenes of the cartel violence is quite raw and gritty so some people might have a hard time with those scenes. Overall, it's a pretty interesting, but not as in depth as I hoped Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member El Chapo documentary. Interesting subject matter but rather short on in-depth research or Chapo's background, rise to power, etc. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Insightful to an extent, it's just a shame the authorities found the drug baron before the film makers as maybe it could have got very interesting if he had talked to them.
