Audience Member Do you like "caper" films - the ones that don't take themselves so seriously - it's only a movie right? Do you want to see James Coburn at the height of his "coolness" - yes cooler than Flint. Do you want to see Susannah York at her loveliest? Doy ou want to see exotic locals like the south of Spain and Morocco and the Mediterranean at it's absolute deep blue? Throw in a fun performance by James Mason, a theme sung by Lou Rawls and a beating soundtrack that was greatly overlooked. There were similar films like this in this era, Fathom with Raquel Welch come to mind but the writing and performances in Duffy to me have it as one of the best pictures ever made. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member average run of the mill com-dram Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Caper flick as happening, with Coburn as your tripster guru. Cammell's influence on the script seems evident in the dual opposition of brothers between a young, smug hipster James Fox and doltish Alderton. They work together to piss off Mason, recruiting Coburn and York. Chemistry is good between those two as well, despite their being too far out for monogamy - which gives the implausible antics some degree of interest beyond the scheme itself. Parrish delivers a light vehicle here, but an appropriately fun one with a lot of style and nice dance breaks. This is available through Sony/Columbia's dvd on demand service. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm being way to generous with this movie when I give it three stars. It's overlong, some of the performances are wince inducing, and the editting is horrid. I still like it though. Coburn and York look good together. Cammell's script was probably way better than what showed up on screen. Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Duffy is a movie mostly made up of pauses. Unhappily, Parrish does not understand the pause, and so what we mostly get are dead spaces with James Coburn smiling enigmatically. Rated: 2/4 Jul 10, 2018 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation Under Parrish, “Duffy” doesn’t really find its groove until we swing into the caper, which the under-whelming screenwriters deliver without a lot of detail in the “case the joint/plan-the-heist” scenes.
