paul m Ugh....thats all i got left Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Dying Laughing: The daily life of a stand-up comedian is lonely, sad and to most people, pretty tragic. But to the small group of people who thrive on making strangers laugh, it is all worth it, as evidenced in these interviews with a line-up of successful comedians including Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Schumer, Chris Rock, Tiffany Haddish, the late Garry Shandling and Sarah Silverman. While the documentary doesn’t offer much new insight, it does provide some laughs as well as an appreciation for the suffering comedians endure - their insecurities and screwed up lives, as well as how they cope with hecklers and the occasional bad shows. B Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member How many talking heads docs about comedians talking about comedy do we need? Apparently one more.... The stories are good as always, but this one is hit with a crate of unnecessary pretention (black and white? Really?). Kevin Pollack's "Misery Loves Comedy" is similar, but is better and more focused; watch that instead. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Good insight into how Stand-Up Comics work. Great parallels to other types of creative careers. Gwilym Mumford Guardian The endless conveyor belt of talking heads does rather lose its lustre over time, and some actual standup would have been welcome, but there's a dizzying amount of insight ... Rated: 3/5 Jun 16, 2017 Full Review Linda Marric HeyUGuys Dying Laughing does a great job in highlighting the highs and the lows of the profession, but where the film doesn't get it 100% right is by offering very little background on each of their interviewees. Rated: 3/5 Jun 14, 2017 Full Review Matthew Lickona San Diego Reader Subject after subject - joke-crafting, set-building, room-running, dying on stage, living on the road, etc. - gets treated with bloodless abstraction by people who tell funny, engaging stories about their experiences for a living. Weird. Rated: 1/5 Feb 24, 2017 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Judging by the off camera laughter during the interview segments this was a fun film to make. Too bad it isn't quite as much fun to watch. Rated: 2/5 Mar 4, 2021 Full Review David Bax Battleship Pretension Being a good comedian, it would seem, is as much about the ability to fail as it is the ability to succeed. Dying Laughing, in its occasional superficiality, does both. But for fans of the art form, it's worthwhile viewing. Jan 6, 2021 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review Dying Laughing strikes that delicate balance between being very funny and extraordinarily moving at times.
