Critics Consensus

Eagle Eye is a preposterously plotted thriller that borrows heavily from other superior films.

Christine Champ Film.com A warning about the threat in our own backyard -- but as often is the case with Hollywood blockbusters, the warning comes across more like fear-mongering than constructive social criticism. Personally, I prefer my cinema sans mongering. Rated: C+ May 6, 2011 Full Review Calvin Wilson St. Louis Post-Dispatch What's galling about Eagle Eye is that it could easily have been an entertaining film without constantly yielding to the impulse to blow stuff up. Jens B Oh boy, what exceptionally stupid, loud, and poorly filmed crap! It starts with the premise: In 2008, everyone is running around with their flip phones and BlackBerrys, and at the same time, a mysterious hacker is supposed to be able to hack and remotely control data networks, traffic control systems, ATMs, and cranes in a junkyard in a split second?! In 2008, I had to wait five minutes for all the images in a Wikipedia article to load... And the reveal of the villain is the icing on the cake: Of course, the Pentagon is owned by HAL-9000's evil cousin, who's zooming around in her fancy gold-ball room, wanting to kill the president. I don't remember why. But she can't be that clever, because every two minutes, both Shia and Michelle could have died, and then the whole plan* would be ruined... just like a considerable portion of my brain cells after this film. *Shia has a deceased CIA twin brother. The supercomputer frames Shia as a terrorist and, with Michelle's help, forces him to go on a manhunt through Washington, D.C. At the Pentagon, he's supposed to give an order, as he has the same voice code as his deceased brother. The computer then has free rein to kill the president using an explosive crystal necklace around Michelle's neck. The explosion is triggered by a note in the national anthem, as the crystal responds to the frequency of Michelle's son's trumpet (RIP Cameron Boyce) – some mountains of coke were inhaled while writing this... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/14/25 Full Review Ryland C I love that this movie has an AI computer as the villain. It’s creepy in a great way! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/17/25 Full Review Daniel H Engaging. Novel. Not predictable. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/06/25 Full Review Isuzu B Mysterious organization with god level powers controls everything and everyone like we’re all sims characters. So begs the question, why would such an organization need 2 people of zero natural abilities to suddenly do its bidding. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/17/24 Full Review Neil S I remember dragging my mom to watch this when I was younger (during my Shia phase) and she absolutely loved it. We both love it to this day. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review William B Good movie as a kid but not as good upon recently rewatching it. Kind of disappointed Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review Read all reviews
