Audience Member A fantastic dive into the history and present day state of Mongolia, with deep and honest stories providing a backdrop for an investigation of the country. A must watch for anyone curious about the world! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Esthetic flyovers in high resolution, insightful interviews but not too many, the fascinating life story of Genghis Khan (I like the personalized animated flashbacks which the director has been using also in his Angkor-Documentary 😊), horse culture, Mongolian Soviet history eclipsing the national hero, not failing to adress the recent problems for public health and the environment because of the sprawling urbanization pitting Herders and urbanites against each other… Bravo! A documentary masterpiece! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Awesome documentary. As a non-Mongolian that married into a Mongolian family, I thought I had a pretty good understanding of the culture and a bit of history knowledge, but Robert does a wonderful job explaining some of the key aspects of Mongolia's history. There seems to be more focus in the 1921 - 2022 period which experienced a dramatic change in culture, politics, and Westernization while maintaining its core heritage as proud Mongolians. What isn't shown in the movie, but deserves a boat load of recognition is how DIFFICULT it is to make this movie... as someone who has also traveled extensively in the Mongolian countryside, there is a ton of rough off-roading involved, little cell reception, insane weather (can go down to -40 c or -40 F in winter), heavy population in the city during the winter (exceeding 999 AQI), difficult sleeping accommodations (compared to Western standards) and a meat-heavy diet when leaving Ulaanbaatar. Kudos to Robert and the film crew for their endurance and thanks to all the amazing Mongolian people that contributed to this documentary. It's perhaps the finest documentary made about Mongolian in the last 100 years. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member An excellent story of Mongolia, told through beautiful scenes, artwork and music. I was blown away by how stunning the film was, both in the footage that was captured and the animations that tied it all together. An interesting political and history lesson, intertwined with interviews that root the documentary into the present day. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Through wide-ranging interviews and stunning cinematography, this documentary addresses the challenges facing contemporary Mongolian society as it seeks to retain the historic and nomadic legacy of Genghis Khan at a time of rapid urbanization and globalization. It is a balanced and thoughtful film, particularly pertinent to the nearly 30,000 Mongolians residing in the U.S. (the so-called Mongolian diaspora community) who are grappling with how to preserve and pass on to their children their unique cultural heritage and identity. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved it! I'm Mongolian and it is rare to see a true representative of our culture in Hollywood. Robert Lieberman made it. We really enjoyed it. Great way to travel through the nomadic country during pandemic 😉. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
