Elizabeth Kerr Hollywood Reporter Old-fashioned and simplistic, but also groundbreaking and entertaining. Sep 23, 2019 Full Review Namrata Joshi The Hindu ELKDTAL might be bringing a "new story" to Bollywood but plays out too flat, lightweight and facile to be of any consequence. Tell us another love story, please. Feb 9, 2019 Full Review Mike McCahill Guardian A closet door has been opened, calmly yet decisively and resonantly: it remains to be seen what - and who - comes out of it. Rated: 4/5 Feb 3, 2019 Full Review Saibal Chatterjee NDTV The film's even tone is enhanced by the restrained performances from the key members of the fantastic ensemble cast. But for Indian cinema, it's a welcome step out of a closet that has been in the dark for too long. Rated: 6.1/10 Jun 24, 2019 Full Review Anna M.M. Vetticad Firstpost At different points in the narrative, different actors in this cracking ensemble invite the label "scene-stealers." Rated: 3/5 May 7, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Sonam Kapoor was not the best choice for the female lead. As a queer female myself, I felt her performance was lacking. She was not fully able to show the utter pain and disheartened feelings of what the LGBTQ+ community face daily and how misunderstood we are. However, I do applaud her for having the courage to do this film. Rajkummar Rao portrayed his role well. The original song written for this movie "Chitthiye" was heartbreaking, and will likely make you cry. Overall, the film was good and I'd recommend it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Although it lacked the complexity and depth it needed to capture the attention of the straight audience,I admire the producers courage and thoughtfulness in producing a movie like this to address the social and cultural stigma around the gay topic in India. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie made me so happy to see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member With the potential and craft that the main-stream lesbian romantic comedy "Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga", it had to be absolutely irresistible fun, because it consists of a crackling ensemble of cast, who actually deliver: Anil Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao are especially enjoyable as Sweetie's father and suitor respectively, and I also liked how progressive in design was the character of Regina Cassandra- by design it isn't constructed to feel or be outlandish, it works in the second half. But in spite of the best showcase of acting skills, the inherent weakness of this film lies in the weakest portrayal of the protagonist- Sonam Kapoor feels and acts artificially and too-too melodramatically as Sweetie, and she doesn't deserve this smartness like Kuhu. We need more organic a love story to start the talk, and unfortunately, not this one either is groundbreaking enough. It's too simplistically written and stitched with unlikable feel-good factor. Love is love, but cinema is cinema as well. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Enjoyed the movie quite a bit, watched it without knowing what the theme of the movie was. Although it is a romantic comedy-drama, the plot deals with LGBTQ rights. The best part was while remaining true to unconventional theme it is also able to deliver an entertaining watch. The movies got superb casting and performances, especially Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla bringing in the laughs with their experience and charms.
