Fascinating story framed by the master painter's work. Despite the melodrama, poor editing and dubbing, this historical love story impressed me. The characters are strong and the cruelty of that era is only scketched. It's an art movie with a magical theatre-like atmosphere. However, the action is quite copressed to fit to the length of the movie, hence, events happening in a few months finish in short time without properly informing the viewer about the larger term of their developement ...
