richard i Sincere but thin story of an 'impossible' relationship (never clear why it is impossible), a tragic put-upon immigrant who seems all too willing to be the victim, and a good deal of crying and unpleasant males. Plus a confusing allegory about a fish child. Overall quite boring and a narrative mess, Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Haven't seen XXY so my expectations not so high. Even so, I thought it was okay; a bit disjointed and I would have liked to have known the characters more. XXY is next on my list to watch. Recomendable. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member The plot during the middle of the movie confused me but the overall essence of the romantic film was moving. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member "The Fish Child" is an arresting but confusing movie with flashbacks and plot twists that leave the viewer baffled. Essentially, it's a love story about the love between an upper class Argentinan daughter of a judge and a poor servant girl from Paraguay. If the movie had been edited properly it would be a real jewel. Despite its flaws, it is worth watching for the tenderness between the two girls. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member 2.5/5 again, themes of love and sacrifice and how the one's past can change how someone sees us...visually gritty with beautiful colors/landscape shots. ok storyline that got disjointed with pacing, two young actresses who are raw. i like the "fish child" tale... Jun 8, 2021 Full Review Bill Weber Slant Magazine With a plot recalling the fevered fictions of Jim Thompson, late Polanski, and Isabel Allende, The Fish Child banks on the sizzle of its pair of young female stars and their enactment of class and erotic tensions to flavor its Sapphic noir melodram Rated: 2.5/4 May 3, 2009 Full Review Glenn Heath Jr. House Next Door Just like an overexcited child who's had too much sugar, The Fish Child can't sit still.
