In the wake of his first successful stint at the helm of a Chinese crime syndicate, Lok (Simon Yam) proposes an unheard-of second term. But when government corruption stifles legitimate business interests of Jimmy Lee (Louis Koo) in Hong Kong, the reformed triad operative rises to oppose Lok and regresses into a life of crime. As the conflict erupts into all-out gangland war, the business-minded Lee becomes increasingly brutal in his desperation to secure a comfortable future for his family.

Justin Bowyer Empire Magazine The exposition is perfectly balanced with bloody action and muscular set-pieces. Rated: 4/5 Oct 26, 2007 Full Review Ty Burr Boston Globe The film's violence erupts in rare, staccato bursts, all the more horrifying for coming out of nowhere. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 24, 2007 Full Review Marrit Ingman Austin Chronicle If it is too stylistically modest to win converts among the multiplex crowd, the film surely rewards followers of the genre. Rated: 3/5 Aug 11, 2007 Full Review Betsy Sherman Boston Phoenix Director To doesn't sacrifice substance to style. The over-the-top violent flourishes, more psychological than paint-the-screen-red literal, will burrow under your skin. Rated: 3/4 Apr 23, 2009 Full Review Amber Wilkinson Eye for Film Whatever he lacks in narrative drive, To is still the master of style. Rated: 3/5 Dec 7, 2007 Full Review Brian Gibson Vue Weekly (Edmonton, Alberta) Drips with a thick, Stygian darkness, but also offers violence that's too explicit and willfully perverse to be thoughtfully disturbing. . . . a little too overwrought, too operatic after its regal predecessor. Atlis S The pacing feels quicker than election, but it focuses on two of my favorites from the first election, Jimmy and Jet. The true nature of Lok is explored more thoroughly and his style of leadership. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/28/24 Full Review Alec B A compelling sequel. The introduction of China as an external force that has an interest in controlling the Triad is fascinating. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/28/24 Full Review Ching Y The government is always the biggest triad. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/12/23 Full Review jjjjjj j Pretty average gangster film. I found nothing really distinct about this film. There was nothing really wrong with this film and it was engaging enough. It just did nothing to really separate it from the rest or make it great. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review gareth d Very slow, a lot slower than the first, almost painfully slow in parts. Lingering scenes where nothing really happens are frequent. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Faaaawk! Wat was deze baashard! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
